(Adventure) The Island of Varras'zul (Manzanita Judging) (Concluded)

"Move, you two!", yells Ogrin to his compatriots, slightly irate to find them still holing up below. He decides he must see to himself first and continues up the stairs while swallowing the contents of the potion down.

As he knows he won't be able to outrun the swarm, he surveys the floor above with the lamp, trying to see if there are any larger cracks in the floor he can jump over while running towards the other end of the hall. Hopefully, the vermin won't be able to cross them as easily as he does.

OOC: Oops, initiative order has changed so I'm posting out of turn. Sorry.

Mona+Nezrak+Scun next before Ogrin and the Centipede Stampede.

oog: No problem, Rln and Rae.

oog2: Elbow deep in projects at the moment. Delay until Monday, earlier if this storm of work lets up.

Nezrak decides to wait for a little while longer for the others. With luck, the swarm might prefer corpses as it's appetite, he thinks while glancing at the Xorn quickly.

Razh drew closer to the stairs and the swarm, beckoning them toward him.

Rillian shouted and yelled at the vermin, trying his best to draw them to him.

Mona and Nezrak kept looking at the stairs, waiting for a sign of the others.

Scun remained where he was (?).

Ogrin ascended the stairs (see level 2) becoming visible to Mona and Nezrak, especially since he was carrying Mona's lantern. The swarm that crawled upon him was visible as well.

After imbibing the potion of healing, Ogrin surveyed the area as quickly as he could. He could see a large enough crack right ahead of him. If he could clear it, then maybe the vermin could not follow him.

It did not seem such a big problem at first, but then he remembered Razh mentioning the unstability of the area around the crack. Hence, the lack of thorough exploration of the southern rooms of this area. One wrong move could send him tumbling to the floor below or worse, collapse the structure around him.

(healed 4)

Ignoring the distant calls of Rillian and Razh, the mindlessly hungry wave of vermin followed Ogrin. The vermin bit and tore at the wounds while they mended, essentially negating the effects of the potion. It still did its job of buying Ogrin some more time.

The Halfling continued to resist being distracted by the swarm. But he could not help but be continously injected with more centipede venom. The venom further dulled the feeling of his nerves, numbing his agility.

Rillian will pick up the armor and move to S25.

ooc Goodluck Ogrin

Edit: I just realized that Rillian never picked the armor back up...though I thought he had. Therefore edited above.

Razh and Ril must surely have reached the stairs by now, thinks Ogrin as he runs towards the crack and jumps over it. When landing on the other side, he continues running straight ahead while mouthing a silent prayer to the Mongrel that the floor will hold, or at least that his friends are out of the way when it collapses.

He'll try to stay near the big crack along the entire floor, hoping that if the floor goes, he'll manage to leap to safety to the other side. The swarm is probably heavier than me, he thinks, it might crash through the floor even if I don't.

OOC: Full round action to Run 80 ft. Jump checks at -3 due to dex damage. Area of landing is likely to collapse. What could possibly go wrong? :uhoh:

Nezrak decides that it's time to follow Scun. He leaves towards the exit, figuring that there's really nothing he can do to help.

oog: Actually, jump is Str based not Dex based.

Unfortunately though, you don't have enough distance for a running start. so the DC is doubled.

And since your speed is 20 feet, there's an additional -6 penalty.

Ouch.

Rasereit moved closer to the stairs.

With the armor in hand, Rillian did the same. As he emerged from a second doorway, he saw a heavily wounded Rasereit approaching the stairs.

Mona stayed near the Xorn corpse, calling to Ogrin to hurry.

Nezrak left the corpse, moving swiftly toward the stairs. He was at the stairs' base but the watery floor about was without much light.

Scun ascended the watery steps, reaching the top in a few seconds. From what the half-orc could see, the way to the surface was clear.

When Ogrin stepped toward the crack, the stone shuddered. But the Halfling did not falter. He cleared the crack with a mighty jump, landing with both feet and continuing his run to meet Mona.

(jump check: 17 +9 -6 =20)
(reflex save: 19 +6 =25)

Behind him, the crack grew and cast tendrils across the floor... raining worked stone upon the Halfling's companions below.

How the steps of a 33 lb Halfing could undo stone that lasted for centuries might not have been the farthest thing from Rillian and Razh's minds as disaster began to fall about them. The catastrophe was only beginning so the entire ceiling didn't fall upon their heads. However, large pieces of rubble were falling from above.

(Razh Reflex:15 +2 =17, 1 damage)
(Rillian Reflex: 1 +5 =6, 1 damage)

Rubble showered upon Razh and Rillian. Razh managed to avoid its worst effects, but was still wounded. At the moment, he stood only through sheer willpower. When his rage went away, then his wounds would Disable him.

More stones continued to fall. If they remained upon that level any longer, the ceiling would crush them.

The swarm continued after Ogrin, driven to madness by the vibrations in the ground. But since it followed an alternate route, it could not catch up to him just yet.

05 Centipede Swarm

Rasereit's turn

oog2: only putting up the lowest level map since that's where it really matters at the moment. In Ogrin's case, he can see the swarm crawling up along the wall about 40 feet away.
