oog: You can enter the stairs thru J26 but remember that every other diagonal movement you take counts as 10' of movement, so getting to the stairwell won't be 55 feet.

To simplify things:

You won't be clearing the stairs in one round.

And Rillian is right about the swarm. It will overtake you at your current movement rate.

ooc: Well then! It seems as though Razh is fated to die today. I think that he's better off retreating and hoping against hope rather than staying and fighting, though. I'm going to have him be raging, starting this round. He'll move up the stairs as far as he can go, and pray to Mongrel that his wild actions aren't the death of him.
 


OOC: If it can be formulated as a quick shout, I see no problem with it, but Nimisgod of course has the final word. While Ogrin talks a lot in-battle, most of it is just fluff; like the banter with Rasereit.

OOC2: Rasereit is above Ogrin right now, right? Otherwise I'll adjust my action a little.

Glancing over at his dwarven friend as he passes by, Ogrin is appalled to see the stout dwarf staggering from multiple bites. He moves up towards the dwarf, still staying a step between him and the swarm, retrieves a peach-coloured potion from a pocket and hold it out to the dwarf "Here's a toast. To our success!". He then turns to face the swarm, avoiding it as good as possible.

OOC3 for DM: move action to move up the stairs, move action to retrieve the potion, Combat expertise to move 1 AB to AC. IF Rasereit is in placed next to me, I'll use total defense instead of a move action and combat expertise. The potion is a
cure light wounds

oog1: Go ahead, Rillian. Make your suggestion to Razh.

oog2: Try to keep combat banter to a minimum. There's not a lot you can say in 6 seconds WHILE doing something else at the same time.

I try to do the same with NPCs and I had hoped that my example was being followed.

oog3: Combat expertise is done as part of an attack or a full attack action... not that it would help you any against the swarm.

ooc: The suggestion is based on Razh not heading up the stairs (if it is too late to retcon that, I'm not sure what can be done) and is relatively long. Please disregard if this is inappropriate.

Spoiler:
Instead, Razh should double move away from the stairs, into the large room area, out of attack range of the swarm, but still draw the swarm away from the stairs. He can continue to double move (probably additional moves should be limited to 40 feet), until he has drawn the swarm at least 3 full moves from the stairs. Since Razh can make in 2 full moves the same distance the swarm can make in 3, he can then head to the stairs confident that he will be able to ascend the stairs before the swarm can get to him. He should use as much room as he possibly can, though, because every extra inch adds to his safety margin.
 

Scun stops and assesses the situation. "Is there any way for us to fight that swarm?" He seems torn between running farther and running back.
