(Adventure) The Island of Varras'zul (Manzanita Judging) (Concluded)

OOC: Nimisgod, I do get an attack of opportunity against the swarm anytime it enters my space, do I not? I'd like to see the results before I decide whether to valiantly hold the stairs or bravely run away :heh: The following applies to the AoO only:

Ogrin turns around to see how the vermin reacts to their passing, and notices they are closer than he expected. They scuttle all around him, up along his legs and over his torso. He slashes wildly with his newly acquired dagger, hoping to gauge its effectiveness against the swarming centipedes.

OOC2: I assume I can't take a 5ft-step up the stairs as it requires 10ft of movement to ascend 5ft?

oog: To be honest, I had forgotten about that. It hardly mattered at the time.

oog2: nope. it takes 10 feet of movement to ascend 5 feet of steep stairs.

Ogrin's slash took ran one of the centipedes through. But one death in the face of such a great number did not slow the verminous tide.

"I would suggest that you hurry! No sense in dying at this point!", Nezrak says when Mona climbs into his view. He continues to move after Scun.

Mona threw a glare at Nezrak as she made her way up the steps with book in hand. Her ascension took most of the light from the lowest floor. The vermin and Razh were in dim light, because of the outer radius of Mona's lantern and the glowing red eyes of the swarm. However, Rillian was left behind in the darkness.

oog: with all the effects thereof

Ogrin followed Mona up the stairs, staying behind her not simply because he wanted to guard her back but because he was going the fastest he could, given the circumstances.

Nezrak rounded the corner, coming to the edge of Mona's lantern light radius. Without his elven eyes, he would have been stumbling in the dark by now. But with his vision in low light situations, the light revealed more to him than it would have for anyone else in the party.

The grey bulk of the Xorn's corpse still lay here, a silent testament to their skill.

Scun rounded the corner, skidding ever so slightly on the stone floor, and made his way to the water-logged slippery stairway.

As the halflings left their vicinity, the swarm decided upon a closer target. The vermin decended upon Razh, completely undeterred by the crushing blows of the dwarf's newfound mace (Aoo). They slipped into his armor and his clothes, biting, tearing and poisoning him.
(Razh takes 5 damage
Fort save vs. Nausea: 17 +5 =22
Fort save vs. Poison: 8 +7 =15
)

Rasereit fought off the Distraction and the Venom to decide on what he had to do nex....

Razh's turn

Code:
Round 3:

20 Rasereit [14-5=9/24] *
15 Rillian [6/13]
12 Mona *
11 Ogrin [16-2=14/17, 1 dex damage]*
10 Nezrak [5/9, 2 dex damage]
06 Scun [19/19, 1 dex damage]
05 Centipede Swarm

Roaring madly, Rasereit swings wildly with his mace at the swarm, crushing centipedes at a time. But was it enough to hold off the mass of creatures? "Rillian, me boy, Ah ain' leavin' ye behind! Hurry up, get your pretty lil' backside o'er 'ere! T'the stairs, me boy, t'the stairs!" Hoping to draw the centipedes attention away from his almost blind friend, Rasereit continues mashing away with a fury.

Nezrak searches for anything that could work as a target for the Light spell, using the corpse of Xorn if possible. In the unlikely event that he can't find anything usable, he'll cast the spell at a crossbow bolt and drop it near the Xorn's corpse. "We need to get to the upper levels! I hope that they don't swim too well!", Nezrak shouts.

Seeing the swarm break off its pursuit, Ogrin turns to Mona. "Hand me the lamp, lass. I'll light the path for the others. Keep running towards the exit." Seeing an opportunity for drama, he adds "and don't look back!"
