(Adventure) The Island of Varras'zul (Manzanita Judging) (Concluded)

Though she was filled with trepidation, Mona stepped up to the task. She looked at Nezrak, Scun and Razh.

"I'll do it. It's what we came here for right?" She gave a nervous smile to Ogrin and Rillian. "And if they say it's safe, it must be safe, right?"

Without other words, she stepped toward the tome and reach out with gloved hands to take it off of its place of rest...

OOC: Sorry for not posting. I´ve been out travelling for a few days, and haven't had the chance to check in.

Ogrin stops Mona. "Easy lass. If anyone should grab it, it's me. At least if I fall prey to a trap, you can patch me up after Rasereit drags me out of it?"

As soon as the room is clear, Ogrin picks up the small dagger and leaps on top of the pedestal. Since the book survived the previous blast of the trap, he hopes he will be somewhat protected from it up there. He grabs the tome and heads for the exit.

Mona appeared relieved. Any further objections on her part were silenced by Ogrin's chivalric attitude. "Very well, Ogrin. Please be careful" She gave him a kiss on the forehead for good luck.

As soon as the agile halfling leapt to the top of the pedestal, the headless skeleton hugging the pedestal fell apart. A few seconds after the dust from the motion settled, everybody was reasonably sure that there was no other reaction to the halfling's movements.

Hands shaking from the anxiety, Ogrin took half a moment to harden his resolve and to gird himself from the pain (assuming that there would be a trap). With nimble fingers, he snatched the book from its place and jumped toward the exit.

Only dust moved about in the wake of his movements. No trap was sprung and everything looked safe.

Scun:

[sblock] From his lookout point at the doorway (O25), Scun saw a horrifying sight emerge from the centipede nest. His dark-seeing eyes fell upon a carpet of clicking, chattering vermin, approaching his position. The centipede swarm closed the distance between themselves and the half-orc with startling rapidity (currently 60 away). Thousands of glowering red eyes were intent on overwhelming and devouring the half-orc, or even his very soul.

If nine centipedes were a problem, these were a veritable plague. The thought of that muscle-deadening venom and the memory of that horrible night in the jungle flashed through the half-orc's mind as he viewed the incoming menace.

Code:
Surprise round
6 Scun
5 Centipede Swarm

Panting with the aftershock of the adrenaline rush and the excercise, Ogrin grins at the others. "All that trepidation and apprahensiveness for nothing, eh? Razh, it should be safe to retrieve the other items in there now."

Scun cries out from the doorway, "Ack! Swarming Centipedes! Get some fire over here!"

He then starts retreating towards the stairs as far as he can.

Seeing Scuns backside retreat disappear through the door, Ogrin continues, "Let me rephrase my previous statement: RUN!"

He'll hand the book to Mona (Free action?) and start running toward the stairs (move action, tumble if necessary) while retrieving a flask of oil from his pocket (move action in place of standard action).

Hearing Scun's cry, Rasereit quickly assesses the situation. Glancing at his sharp axes, he quickly drops them into his hip sheathes and lunges for the enchanted mace on the ground. As quickly as he can, he gets out of the room and into the hall, heading also for the stairs, though if any of his friends need protecting, he will stop and fight with them.

OOG: I just realized from Manzanita's proposal: Even though I was aware of the XP/month of adventuring rule, I had never actually applied it. This adventure started on 8-20-04, so we now have about 6.5 months under our belts. Manzanita says that the current rule is 100 XP/month, so unless I'm completely mistaken, everyone should add 600 XP to their characters.

OOG: I have not forgotten about the 100XP per month.

Please remember that the assignment of XPs is within the jurisdiction of the adventure's GM. That said, please leave the GMing to me.

Do not add your 600 XPs yet, people. Worry not, you'll get them.

OOG2: Waiting for Nezrak's actions.
