Ogrin steps gingerly into the room, taking in the atmosphere.
"I'd say the trap is, or at least was, triggered by someone touching the tome. Lets refrain from doing that just now... didn't go too well for the previous looters. Nezrak, these runes might give us a clue to the nature of it... can you help deciphering them?"
OOC: Ogrin knows Draconic, if that would help with the runes.

oog: I'll assume that you take twenty, Rln.
oog2: is it possible to aid a take 20 attempt? the SRD says that you can't take 10 on an aid another check.
oog3: by destroyed the cover I meant, destroyed the title on the cover. editting now
Ogrin's search doesn't bring anything new to light. However, there are a few gold coins on the skeleton's person (30 gp).

Seeing Ogrin walk in the room unharmed, Razh picks up the courage to enter as well. He notices the well-made mace by the human remains and runs over to it. Just before picking it up, the gruff dwarf jumps back as though burned. "... Is it safe?" he timidly inquires.

OOC: Neither I or Nezrak find anything out about the runes?
"I doubt it... It seems the trap was triggered when they lifted the tome. That skeleton still holds on to it; if you touch it, you might move the tome, which could set the trap off again. Unless you want to go the same way as these poor souls," he indicates the skeletons and the mark on the wall, "I suggest you stay out of the room" and out of my way, he continues in his mind "for the time being. I may be able to leap to safety, but I've never seen a dwarf do backflips."
When Rasereit's out of the room, Ogrin glances at the walls. "I take it noone has any arcane knowledge in the arts of elemental protection? It would be useful here..." With Rillians aid, he examines the tome and the pedestal closely for traps (search +6, take 20).

oog: I'm not sure if you can aid a take 20 attempt, since it is the equivalent of trying 20 times until you get it perfect. Furthermore, you can't take 10 on an aid another attempt.
For the moment, I will assume that you can aid a take 20 attempt, rolling once for the Rillian's check and adding the benefits to Ogrin's search checks should he be successful.

The runic circle was as much gibberish to the party as the runes surrounding the pedestal in the other room. If anyone looked to Mona for lore, she shook her head. She had already exhausted that particular divination for the day.
The halfling cleric looked anxious to peruse the contents of the scratched tome, but she waited for Ogrin's diagnosis of the situation.
Nezrak's studies of the runic circle brought him some information.

Nezrak saw that the circle's magic aura was long since gone. The structure and placement of the runes reminded the grey elf of similar circles of warding magic that he had seen previously.

Being inside the room for a mere moment allowed Razh's racial stonecunning to give him a clue or two about it.

Unlike the pedestal outside, this room and this pedestal was constructed with the structure around them. Given his lack of formal training on the matter, Razh's instincts could tell him nothing more specific. [/sblock]

Rasereit backs out of the room and peers in by the doorway. The dwarf who is usually loud and brave, perhaps to a fault, is now humbled. He has a nervous look in his eyes as he watches the three party members search the room. "Magic... Harrumph, Ah hate magic. Scary stuff, 'tis. And Ah kin tell by the stones, that room looks like 'twas made for jus' that: magic. Ah hate magic..." He turns away and starts pacing, glancing back every now and then.
