(Adventure) The Island of Varras'zul (Manzanita Judging) (Concluded)

Scun struck again, ripping his sickle across the spider's hairy body. More vile ichor spewed from the wound.

Nezrak launched yet another bolt from his crossbow. Due to the chaos of the melee however, the projectile flew straight into the jungle.

Rasereit continued to swing with his axes but he could not, at this time, land any blows on the quick 7-legged spider.

The Gorilla Spider lunged at Scun, taking the fight out of the enraged Mongrelite with its second bite. Scun fell backward into the mud, the ground shaking slightly at the impact of the gigantic half-orc. His spider bites were pulsing with red, but he somehow managed to resist a second dosage of the venom.

Rillian stepped to one side to flank the creature with Rasereit then let loose with a thrust of his shortsword. He managed to connect with savage stab at the creature's abdomen, ichor sputtering unto him from the injury.

Mona, just out of range of the spider's reach, cast a spell of minor healing then touched one of Scun's bite wounds, bringing him back to the brink of consciousness.

Combat Summary:

The combat continued unabated, with Scun and Rillian tearing more holes into the gigantic vermin's body and spilling more of its fluids unto the jungle mud. Nezrak and Rasereit helped in their own way, striking at the Spider with bolt and axe. It slowed ever so slightly as the agony of its wounds began to dissolve its will to fight. Since it was cornered, with no room for retreat, it decided to strike at its assailants instead of fleeing.

The fighting took another turn for the worse for the party as Scun fell to the Spider's vicious fangs. A mere second after the half-orc hit the muddy floor, Mona cast a spell of minor healing upon him, bringing him to the brink of consciousness.

Scun, still in the throes of his rage, opens his eyes and still sees red. He lashes out with his weapon from the ground with his last available energy.

Spurred on by his half-orc companion's determination, Razh lets out a mighty dwarven warcry as he lets loose his two-axed fury at the monster that seems to be slowly picking away at his friends.

OOC: Obviously, since he's spent his rage for today, he's not raging. Just flavor. I guess Rillian is flanking the spider?

Scun's sickle took out half of another leg when he lashed out at the Spider. The pain overcame him soon after he made his strike and his eyes rolled back into his head.

Nezrak launched yet another bolt from his crossbow. This one joined the rest of its brethren, flying into the night and the foilage. The melee made it too difficult for the wizard to be accurate.

Rasereit tore into the Spider with the greater of his two axes, slamming the war axe into the crown of eyes at the Vermin's head. It stumbled clumsily at the force of the blow and was unable to do naught but stand and watch Rillian leap upon its hairy body and rain vicious blows with his shortsword.

The Spider fell heavily unto the mud, the last of its breath escaping its body in surprising form.

"Fell this guardian while you may, mortals! Upon this world you bring the Grea-"

Rasereit did not let it finish, landing chop after savage chop upon its head and mandibles 'till there was naught but bits of gristle, gore and ichor-covered hair.

Mona moved to Ogrin's side and expertly bound his wounds. Afterward, she turned to Scun and did the same. Her hands were bloodied by the wounds of her comrades as she regarded the book in her hands.

"By the gods, what have I wrought?"

She had little time to contemplate the book however as she had to work on Scun and Ogrin. Fortunately for both of them, she managed to halt the progression of the poison in their systems. It was an odd sight to see the halfling working her miracle on Scun's rapidly shrinking body.

After her work was done, she told the party that she was out of spells.

"If we must carry on, then we have to bear our comrades' bodies aloft to our destination"

oog: I assume that Scun's guidance will be used on his saving throw vs poison.

Razh breaks out of his red-rage and suddenly looks sullen and confused. "Blasted bug... It attacked us, righ'? Ah... Great, stupid talkin' bug's got me feelin' guilty!" He kicks the corpse and then goes over to the motionless forms of Ogrin and Scun. "Ah... well, Ah hate to stay 'ere and wait. We should get off this cursed island a'fore anythin' else 'appens. But... can we make it t'the shore an' the boat in time? Is it worth the risk? I don' know, meself..." He glances about in nervous indecision. He's okay, but he isn't sure that he can handle another monster like that just with who's left.

"I think it would be best if we camped. Maybe we should move a couple hundred feet from the spider corpse though."

At a moment when Mona is out of earshot Rillian says quietly to Nezrak "Nezrak, could you take a look at that book we recovered. I'm concerned about that creature's last words, and Mona's response."

"I think that we should rest for now. We can't outrun any other possible enemies while carrying Scun and Ogrin when we are already tired anyway. Let's try to find a good camping place.", Nezrak says, seemingly relieved by the death of the spider that followed them so long.

"And after we've done that, let's take a look at the book.", he continues.
