(Adventure) The Island of Varras'zul (Manzanita Judging) (Concluded)

ooc: My mistake then, RillianPA. When Rillian Trillnason squirts, he should move beside the swarm.

ooc2: Nezrak's turn

Round 3:
19-Scun
19-Nezrak
15-Spider Swarm
14-Ogrin
14-Rasereit
06-Rillian
04-Mona

Scun stood up and stepped away from the swarm, trying his best to fend off the vermin.

Nezrak moved away from what was once the campfire, a burning brand in his hand.

The spider swarm surged toward the half-orc whilst keeping the screaming Mona in its clutches. Mona screamed as the creatures crawled all over her, biting and injecting their venom. She fell into a fetal position in an attempt to cover her nose and ears.

The vermin also engulfed Scun (4 damage). The half-orc found that attempting to dodge the swarm's attacks would not work at all. In fact, his focus upon defense prevented him from making any opportunistic attacks upon the swarm. His mind was reeling with shock (nauseated) at the black mass that was consuming him bit by bit.

Ogrin is next. I believe he's currently holding a burning brand.

OOC: This action comes after Ogrin's

Rasereit grabs another fire brand from the smoldering campfire. He summons what strength he has left and charges at the mass of spiders, roaring as he does so. His already huge muscles bulge, his veins pop out and his eyes seem grow large. His now blood-red face contorts in fury as he swings the brands about among the the vermin. "Ah'm comin' fer ya, mates!!" he cries as the wild dance of flames storms about his stout figure.

OOC: Pick up another fire brand, rage (free action, unless I'm mistaken), and attack with one of the firebrands (attacking with both is a full action, again, unless I'm mistaken). Current HP = 5 (3 + 2 for new CON)

Attack: +6 attack (1d6 damage, and you guessed it, unless I'm mistaken!)

While waiting for ogrin's response, might as well clarify some things:

There are no more burning brands left on the ground.

I had mentioned that there were two remaining after Scun took one.

Nezrak took one and offered it to anyone (anyone could pick it from him as a free action). No one took up Nezrak on his offer before Nezrak moved further away from the swarm.

Rasereit took the last one.

Ogrin has his own torch, which he lit using a nearby brand (at the time, the one held by either Rasereit or Nezrak).

Unless you state otherwise, Rae ArdGoath, I'm going to assume that Rasereit charges into the fray with one brand.

By the way, torches are improvised weapons and thus there's a non-proficiency penalty attached to using one. I'm going to assume that the burning brands are practically the same (except that they don't last for an hour like torches do).

OOC: Ah, I see. Well, ideally, Razh would go in with two torches to take advantage of his two-weapon fighting, so (your call) perhaps he calls to Nezrak to bring him a brand and takes it from him? This would put his free action total at 3 (rage, talk, and get the brand), but they are free. I'm not a rules lawyer, so you tell me. If that's not possible, we'll just add this onto the previously posted action:

Rasereit moves into a position where he can drive the spiders off of Mona, figuring Scun can probably take care of himself. As his wild footwork carries him to his new location, he calls to Nezrak, "Oy! Bring that brand over t'meh if y'aren't gonna use it! Right nah, Nezrak!"

OOC: So this adds on a (free) 5ft step and a (free) spoken command to Nezrak. Technically he hasn't gone yet, so I'm allowed to do this, right? ;)

Rae ArdGaoth: You can take any number of free actions during a round, though some free actions are restricted in the number of times you can take them in one round (talking and casting quickened spells, for example).

Theoretically you can take a whole lot of free actions in one round. Say, you had the quickdraw feat and 20 daggers. You could hypohetically draw all twenty of them (free action each) and drop all of them on the ground (free action each).

In contrast, if you say too much in one round, it won't be considered a free action. Also, you can only do one quickened spell per round.

So, let me get this straight: Rasereit attacks the swarm (trying to get it off Mona). And he's raging. He tells Nezrak to bring him the remaining brand on Nezrak's next action (since Rasereit can't move more than 5 feet and attack with two weapons anyway).

I hope I got that right, this time.

Hearing Rillian's call for fire, Ogrin stands ready to move to his side and light the oil.

OOC: Delay action until after Rillian. Then, move and light the oil-covered vermin.

Nezrak will move closer to pass the brand to Rasereit.

OOC: Thought that Nezrak didn't take that other brand, but not a big problem.

Round 3:
19-Scun
19-Nezrak
15-Spider Swarm
14-Ogrin
14-Rasereit
06-Rillian
06-Ogrin
04-Mona

Rasereit rushed (FRA)at the vermin with a fiery fury in his eyes and a blazing brand in his hand. The vermin parted nimbly before the swings of the raging dwarf, however, and he was not able to set any of them alight just yet.

Rillian and Ogrin were far more successful. Rillian moved to the edge of the swarm's area (MA). With both hands, Rillian Trillnason spouted forth the contents of the oilskin (SA). Oil rained upon the spiders in copious amounts, making them slick and shiny in the torch light. The oil that did not land upon the spiders fell upon the cool mud of the jungle.

The halfling Ogrin took his chance, he moved beside Rillian (MA) and set scores of spiders aflame (SA) (3 damage, the oil will burn for one more round).

A screaming Mona finally got up and ran out of the swarm's area, thrashing about in the mud as soon as she was safe.

Round 4:
19-Scun
19-Nezrak
15-Spider Swarm
14-Rasereit
06-Rillian
06-Ogrin
04-Mona
