Adventurer's Vault... I'm surprised!

Yeah, its good to see that 4E finally has a throwing shield item that's actually worth a damn ^_^ I was always disappointed with the 3E version.

I love the idea of using reagents as a type of "magical ammo". I can't believe I haven't thought of it before.

The vehicles are fantastic, although I wish there were more. They really could have made a book just on vehicles/mounts alone.

The "animal companion magical slot" is interesting, but thats going to be mostly dead material until future supplements come out. Since there's already an adventurer's vault 2 planned, I don't know why they didn't save it for that.

I was disappointed with the "new" armors though, although I guess its just because I don't like 4E's armor quality mechanic. I wish they had more mudane weapons. They still have lots of places they can go with them, and more mechanics they could add. (via feats if nothing else)

I think there's too much magical armor & weapons in general in the book. I wish there were more wondrous items and magical equipment from other slots.

But my gripes are small. It is an awesome book for sure.

I picked up my copy yesterday.

An excellent book... My only complaint is that they didn't include any new Artifacts.

Doesn't suprise me. Adventurer's vault seems more geared towards stuff PCs can just aquire. They only aren't in the campaign if the DM wants them to not be.

Artifacts are the opposite. They only enter the campaign if the DM puts them in.

Yaarrrg! Curse 'pon ye, Enigma, scandina'ian distributor o' WotC swag!
Why can't ye scallywags e'er get the booty to me grubby 'ands in time! :.-(

Honestly, I'm glad it didn't. - that way it is more player-usable content. Save the artifacts for DMG2

I haven't read it over with a fine-tooth comb yet but I am enjoying what I've read so far. Not that every item would necessarily see a part of my game but it's good stuff none the less.

I like the Alchemy stuff, although it is unfortunate they couldn't find room for more.

If Dragon magazine had new alchemical formulas one month and new rituals the next as a regular feature in the manner of the "Ritually Speaking" article, that alone would guarantee my $60/year.

I'm a bit hesitant about the new alternate armor types, too, which give bonuses to defenses... It seems to me that defense bonuses are supposed to be on neck items, and we're inching towards the third edition paradigm where you can get a bunch of bonuses from a bunch of items...

Since I don't have AV yet, do the bonus from the two sources stack? They would seem to be an enhancement bonus, and thus wouldn't stack. Either way, that really seems to go against the guidelines wotc established.

It's actually an armor bonus. Several different "upgraded" armors (e.g. godplate, from the PHB-- the ones that require a minimum enhancement bonus for better stats) have a +1 or +2 armor bonus to one of fortitude, reflex, or will defenses. Cloth and chainmail give bonuses to will, leather gives reflex, hide and scale give fortitude, and plate gives resist X all.
