Adventures for DM and one player...

First Post
I'm trying to teach my wife RPGs, starting with AD&D 2nd Ed. and was wondering if anyone has, or knows of, freely downloadable adventures for one player and a DM? I've never DMed before so I'd probably fail miserably at adapting an existing adventure... any suggestions?

Try searching for a Thief Among Us. It's a free supplement adventure put out by Wyvernsclaw games. I tried running it but it wasn't really that fun. Maybe it was just me. Anyway, that's the only one I know of right now.

Cleric's Challenge (Download)

Pommeville is a sleepy little town that seems like a good place to stay for the night. That is, until the town's dead rise Pommeville unless someone can find a way to comfort the restless dead. A lone, player character cleric will have to be clever, courageous, and more than a little lucky to solve the mystery and save Pommeville from the mindless zombies that threaten it!

This adventure is available from SVGames for 5 bucks. I've actually not run or played this one, but the Wizard's Challenge II and Thief's Challenge II were both cool.

I really like the idea of single-player modules. We've often had a hard time keeping a gaming group for more than a few months, for a number of reasons, so it's often just my wife and me. Adventure design for just one character can be a real challenge, but it's very rewarding, too. That one player can always be the star and gameplay moves much faster with two people at the table than with five+. Good luck!

the Gestalt classes variant in Unearthed Arcana works well in this situation. You, the DM, run one NPC and have your wife, the player run a PC, each with gestalt characters.

Or, you can just let her start at level 2 (maybe multiclassed) and have an NPC also at level 2 (maybe multiclassed) run with her.

The party won't be ready for higher-level adventures quite as fast as a real 4 person party, but it will get you guys going faster and you won't have to do much tweaking to the adventures until you're more comfortable with DMing and running and adventure for two.

This is pretty close to the way my wife and I play.

Excellent, I have a couple of options now. Thanks to everyone for a speedy, and informative, response. I'm looking forward to introducing my wife to RPGs and hope to join a group in my area where my wife and I can both play. Thanks again...

There always remains giving her an NPC party to round things out. Or maybe even letting her run more than one of them - if the idea is for her to learn the game, that might help.
