Adventuring while pregnant

Yikes, that's something I wouldn't bother hammering out until it happens in-game...
People! We don't need all these contingencies! Leave it for a later specific question! :)
Just my opinion, disregard as you wish, this all seems a bit extraneous to me, though, unless you're already dealing with a polymorphed pregnancy... something...

At current, we have a very important female NPC in our group that is pregnant and we play in a group with at least one female PC that is romantically and physically involved with another PC.

And, at least a couple of us have been turned to stone or had our physical forms changed in the past few sessions alone. All of the questions that have been posed are, possible in my group currently... which is why I brought it up.

So, not really extraneous... just preperational (is that a word?).

My NPC in a game, who is married to a PC from another game (Half Celestial Fighter 4 /Wizard 6 /Arcane Archer 10) that we were playing simoultaneously, didn't find out she was pregnant until after going into the Shadar pool adventure from Dungeon Magazine (for those who don't have the adventure, going into the pool "allowed" you to advance to epic levels and gave you a lot of bonuses). It was a lot of fun to play a pregnant Gold Half-dragon Paladin 5/Mercurial Knight 5(Homebrew PrCl)/Cleric 10. :D She was already the tank of the group, but after that nobody messed with her. ;) Nobody knew how long she was going to be pregnant, how many kids she was going to have, or what affect going into the pool or a dozen interesting planes would do. During the campaign weird things would happen every once in a while that no one commented on they just looked at her growing stomach. When we took a break from playing after defeating the BBG, she was still pregnant after 16 months.

I then hinted at a possibility of playing these oh so special children in a followup game. :D

When does that point come?

Queen Dopp, let me know if this goes too off track for ya.

But reading the above, for those of you who have DMed or have played a character who was pregnant when or how did the PC/NPC find out? Did the DM just annouce you did it and now your a parent or what?

I'd suggest that there's really no way for the father to know unless the mother tells him. There's really no way for a mother to know, apart from missing a specific monthly event, other than certain diagnostic spells (maybe status?) which might be cast sooner, and would reveal the mother's pregnancy.

Since the NPC is unhappily pregnant, one PC is recently married, and two PC's are involved:: I figured I would bring this one up again.... for any new words of wisdom....

For those interested, the book Ancient Inventions has a whole chapter on what the ancients knew about birth control. Scientists and researchers believe the ancients were pretty successful with their contraceptives. I would have to believe that if the mundane ancient world could figure out how to prevent pregnancy, so would a magical world. And actually, this is just a pretty cool bool if you are looking for non-magical items and gadgets to use in your game...but I digress...

We've had games, however, where PCs or NPCs became pregnant. The hairy part was always dealing with the actual pregnancy. Once the child was born, the party would generally hire a nanny to travel with them and buy a carriage or wagon. She'd stay in the carriage with the kid while the party went in the dungeon. Or she'd stay with the child in the nearest town or village if the vicinity wasn't considered safe. Regardless of what is going on, there comes a point where there should logically be down time. A woman in her last trimester is a liability in combat, whether the world is in danger or not. She becomes a target and a distraction. And just taking the logic all of the way through, is any mother that wants to give birth going to risk her child like that? Is she going to risk the safety of the rest of the party like that, knowing that their instinct will be to protect her and perhaps not do what needs to be done to complete the mission. I don't see any good-aligned character doing it.

In the few instances where it came up, one PC was a wizard. She spent her downtime making potions and scrolls for the party to help them with their quests while she waited for the baby to be born. In another, it was a druid who went to her grove to give birth, and convinced a couple of the local fey to assist the party in her absence. Since in both cases the PC was still supporting the party's efforts, the DM awarded the character experience accordingly.

After a pregnant pause of nearly two and a half years, this thread gives birth to new posts.

So QueenD, what happened? I remember when I first read this thread I thought you and your GM must be nicompoops. I mean, c'mon, rolling dice to get pregnant. Hah, what dorks you must be. That's like rolling to see how well-endowed your character is.

*looks around nervously*

(Hope no one here gamed with me back in high school.)

Anyway, now that I realize you're just a fun-lovin' individual, I'm curious whatever happened to the pregnant woman.
