Advice: Consequences for a player's mistakes

I'm not sure that many of the PCs actions can be defined as simple mistakes.

However, I am convinced that the PC has made a habit of intentionally burning bridges, and for that he deserves to suffer.

Eventually.

mistake 1: Noblewoman leaves the smuggler due to the PC's loose lips. The smuggler having lost his prize vows to get his revenge on the PC for screwing everything up. Let simmer for latter.

mistake 2: Presumably if the PC was seen attacking the other soldiers on the wall, then possessed soldiers were also seen attacking the PC, making the situation much less clear cut. Still I might have the PC hauled up on charges and facing swift and brutal justice to make him sweat a little bit, only to have the a similar situation break out on the walls again (even as they're standing on the execution platform), only this time with more dire consequences since he's not there to stop it. His story is vindicated and he's freed, though perhaps with a bit of a reputation for cold-heartedness.
