Advice on an encounter

Hello all,
I've just started running a D20 modern adventure and would like your advice on an event in an upcoming game.
Basically, I'd like a player character to be contacted by an enemy on a spiritual level. One way to do this would be to simply have the character have a dream. Another would be a vision brought on by drugs.

The idea that occured to me is a near death experience. The character will be driving and then crash. While in the car and injured the player experiences a vision of a new enemy. He wakes up the next day in the hospital and is fully healed before any further encounters happen - in other words there is no detrimental effect in game. All I'm going for here is dramatic effect - the dream thing has been done to death.

My fear is that the player may appeal that he was not allowed a driving check or a saving throw. I could allow this but then of course there is a chance that he would make his save.

What can anyone suggest as to how to handle this? Or should I abondon this idea and simply follow regular rules?

Thanks for your help.

Dream sequence while sleeping. No fuss, no muss.

Just impress upon the player that this is "not" a normal dream. It has a clear, determined quality that lacks the surreal fog of most dreams. While he may have nagging doubts that such things aren't possible...he "knows" this wasn't a normal dream.

BTW, I just noticed your sig - one of the most hilarious moments in TV history!

Hah, thanks. You're the first person to ever comment. The Hindenburg-esque cries of doom were just great.

WKRP in Cincinnatti was one of the best sitcoms ever.
