D&D 5E Advice on Books?

There is also UA content which is semi-official. Most of the player content has ended up in a book eventually (though usually refined some).
It’s official playtest content. In other words, it is consistent with official material in terms of presentation, but DMs should apply as much rigor when evaluating it for balance as they do 3rd party content, if not more.

The majority of 5e books are more or less adventure paths. If you're leaving PF because PF2 has disappointed you, you won't find much of a haven in 5e, it's intentionally limited on the player/crunch side.
Ash's list begs to differ. And you have other people add on to the player's side of things. Then you have the UAs.
So I guess it is intentionally limited on the player crunch side. If you remain ignorant of the spreading out of the crunch across books.
