Sorry, I forgot to inlcude my own brief suggestions (duh!):
1) Have the other party members hold a heartfelt "Come-to-Jesus" intervention, like folks do with family members addicted to drugs or gambling. This will involve the other players and potentially awaken the languishing PC's spirit with their expressions of emotion on his behalf.
2) The scenarios listed above which include being haunted and/or some form of confrontation with his conscience are excellent.
3) You could use a Groundhog Day effect, and allow the player to re-live the same day over again, from the moment he was first approached by the evil wizard. Granted this would wash away the subsequent two in-game months, but it would cleanse your own errors and soul Tsyr.
4) Some/any the Ten Plagues would serve to motivate (we hope) the PC to action.
5) Allow the PC an Ebeneezer Scrooge life event, so that he might see what life in the future would be like if he: a) hadn't rescued his friends; b) continues to be wallow in depression.
