AEG Empire, how is it?

Nope, not a revision per se. The original print run sold out, so they did a second printing, incorporating errata from the first print run.

In the old days, we used to call those revisions. It wasn't necessary to create backwards incompatability to call it a revision. ;)

So, of all the currently available "politics-type" supplements, which ones most ably model the running of a noble house (not counting Green Ronin's Noble Handbook, which is just in the preview stage...)? A merchant house? A criminal organization? A religious order? A magical guild?

Help would be appreciated! :) I'm looking for something above the level of an adventuring group, but below the level of running a kingdom...

Well, this is what happens when folks start using the definitions of words from the OED Edition 3.5 :D

Well, off-hand, I could list the following, though most of them I don't know very thoroughly:

Criminal House:

Traps and Trechery--has a chapter on designing a thieve's guild. I believe Path of the Shadow expanded on this some.

Canting Crew (from Troll Lord Games, by Gary Gygax)--details how to design an underworld in a fantasy world, though received mixed reviews.

Crime and Punishment--from Atlas Games. Havne't seen it, it just came out. If it is good as Dynasties and Demagogues, it should be very good. It is supposed to fit very well iwht Dy & De

I'm gonna outright ignore your restriction and say "Noble's Handbook" as I have it (which usually means it's at your FLGS, too.) It's got a neat little system where you build noble houses almost like characters with feat-like advantages, like "groomed" which lets you give your retainers bonus feats.

Ah, so it is out? Because I saw the three-page preview/excerpt in the d20 Publishers forum, and thought it was only in the preview stage...

Great, another thing I'll have to add to the pile of "must buy when I get steady work"... :)

According to Green Ronin's web site, the book should hit the stores this week.

1) You may be able to find the ESD versions of some 2nd Edition supplements:
Bastion of Faith (Clerics); College of Wizards (Uh... Wizards); Den of Thieves (Uh... Rogues). While the NPCs need re-design work, the information on the organizations is pretty solid.

2) There have been several organizations featured in recent issues of Dragon.

3) Birthright 3E, while perhaps too much "running a kingdom", IS the best model I have seen so far for the "whole shootin' match" as a set.

4) Since you want something under the level of running a kindgom, take a look at Magical Medieval Society: Western Europe. Their city design system talks about dividing the power in a city among the power centers. Each power center is presumably a guild of some sort. You may find that's the sort of thing you are looking for.

5) And, of course, as Psion mentioned, The Noble's Handbook (looking forward to getting my copy).

The Den of Thieves, Bastion of Faith, and College of Wizardry ESDs are all on my list to buy when I have the money. (I already picked up almost 200 of the things in the last couple of months... :) )

Unfortunately, I don't subscribe to Dragon (money being the main reason... :( ). That, and I'm such a complete-ist, I'm afraid I'd start trying to collect all issues from 251 through the current. (I have the Dragon Magazine Archive CDs, thankfully...)

I've got the Birthright 3E rules, as well as pretty much everything from Birthright 2E as an ESD (see my first point :) -- only missing six of the domain sourcebooks and the naval rules). I'm looking more for something like the whole Noble's book from Green Ronin, but for wizards, priests, and so on. Your notes on how you adapted Empires looked darn good...

Already bought MMS, and got the complimentary MMCity as well. Guess I'll have to take the time to read 'em. :)

Can't wait until I have the money to buy about another $300 or so of stuff...
