Hey all,

The WOTC site has redone all the maps for Against the Giants -- when are we going to see the retreatment of Against the Giants like Tomb of Horrors or White Plume Mountain?

They did Tomb of Horrors and White Plume Mountain?

Hear hear!

I sought out the 2nd Edition Against the Giants online in order to use in my campaign, and while I never got a chance to, I love the premise. Giants are an underused opponent in D&D and really deserve more attention.

Wow! I hadn't heard of these maps - thanks!

I'm planning on running Against the Giants starting later this month - having updated pretty maps is great.

Wotc's Giants are really tough compared to the way they used to be *1. If the giants are kept at the same numbers, the recommended level for the adventure will be a bit high. if the Giant numbers are reduced, the halls might feel sparce and underpopulated.

*1: In 2e giants were increased in size and hit die to compensate for demons and devils being taken out of the ruleset more or less. In 3e Wotc shrank them to thier 1st edition sizes, but kept thier higher HD from 2e. This creates giants that are very potent for thier size class for non leveled creatures. Stat wise, the large giants are about as tough as a 'typical' Huge creature.

There was a poster that had a conversion of the lower HD 1E giants in the thread below...

Daniel R. Collins had a similiar notion a few years ago and built regressed versions of the true giants, moving them back to their 1st edition HD. I updated his work to 3.5 and posted it on my website:

I'm using these stripped down versions in my homebrew conversion of G1, G2, and G3 and so far I've been pretty happy with the results.
Those seem much more fitting for thier HP / HD / sizes.

The Against the Giant maps are part of the Map-A-Week. The monthly headings are not labelled accurately. The third one (G3) is labelled "Against the Giants, Part 1" while the first one (G1) is labelled "Against the Giants, Part 2" and G2 is part of the "Fiendish Codex I and Against the Giants" page. Direct links to each month:

May - G1 (Steading of the Hill Giant Chief)
June - G2 (Glacial Rift of the Frost Giant Jarl)
July - G3 (Hall of the Fire Giant King)

Or there is the 2006 Compiled Archive which lists everything so far this year on one page.
