The Chain Golem, Degenerate cultist, Shock Troop Devil, and Yuan-ti are the worst offenders in this set. Overly large heads with bodies that look as if they were fashioned out of play-doh.

Or done as 3d models on a computer. I'd be interested to see how many of these were actually sculpted. It makes a lot more sense for them to go strictly 3d models since that well convert easily to the game table. Some of the problems I see with this set look like they could be issues with 3d software. Anything mentioned on that front?

The issue isn't that a collector/hobbyist could do a better job, but that recent DDM minis are generally noticeably worse than similar DDM minis from two or three years ago. Specific exceptions abound, (and of course, even the best sets had some duds), but since Night Below, the number of "dud" sculpts and paint-jobs per set has been consistently overtaking the number of awesome ones in each set.
Over at ddmspoilers someone posted a photo of the two huge red dragons side by side. That was a real eye-opener.

The sculpt of the AtG red dragon is actually okay, if a bit boring. But the paint-job is absolutely terrible. There are worlds between the old one and the AtG dragon. There was a time when 'rare' meant better quality. Obviously that's no longer true.

I wonder how difficult it would be to repaint the dragon so it would look half-decent?
When I still bought metal minis I also tried my luck at painting some of them in the beginning - with ... mixed results.

I definitely don't want to go back buying metal minis, though. The advantages of plastic (cheap & robust) still prevail.
