Against the Giants picture gallery is up!

Has the highlighted part been changed to accommodate the number of Hughes and rares in the total set? Will this help getting a Dragonborn, or not?

Normally you'd have an extra common rather than the huge (rare or uncommon), I think that's how they have done previous huge sets (although did they use to remove an uncommon instead?).

The problem really is the where certain figures are, it's shocking that the tiefling and dragonborn are rares, they should have been at least uncommons.

This is, IMO, the worst set yet. The only minis that are only vaguely interesting are Rare.

All the Large and Huge minis are rare except for a few that you would never get much use out of.

Uhm, thats generally the point of collectable minis, and why its such a ponzie scheme.....if the ones you wanted were common....you wouldnt buy alot.

I don't know about the usual "booster pack" distribution, but here's something from he first preview of the set:

If this is true, this is very good news.
But doesn't this mean that uncommons are more common than commons?

...common

Having check the last Huge set this is the part they have changed for the worse IMHO.

In addition to the 12 Huge figures in the set, there are 18 rares, 21 uncommons, and 9 commons.

This distribution means you are going to end up with lots more duplicates of the commons, and the uncommons are going to be harder to get. I suppose they see it as an improvement, because in previous Huge sets, there has effectively been less commons available since you only get 3 instead of the normal 4. So this distribution is perhaps more like what you would end up with with a standard set, personally I'd rather haver a greater range of figures easily accessible by being common.

War of the Dragon Queen you got 14 commons and 16 uncommons and 18 rare. No changes to the number or rares so it makes no difference to if you'll get a dragonborn or not.

Giants of Legend 16 commons, 21 uncommon and 23 rare (yes the 12 Huge's were on top of the 60 figures).

Against the Giants will be our third foray into Huge miniatures. For this set, we've once again reexamined how figures are distributed across the rarities. As in War of the Dragon Queen, there are six uncommon Huge figures and six rare Huge figures, with a rare Huge being found on average in one out of three boosters. We've changed how the other figures are distributed, too. In addition to the 12 Huge figures in the set, there are 18 rares, 21 uncommons, and 9 commons. In a single booster, you'll find one Huge figure (uncommon or rare), one non-Huge rare, three uncommons, and three commons.

Expected (1 booster):

1/3 Huge Rare
2/3 Huge Uncommon
1 Rare
3 Uncommon
3 Common

To achieve (on average) a complete set of each would require:

6 Huge Rare / (1/3 Huge Rare / Pack) == 18 Packs
6 Huge Uncommon / (2/3 Huge Uncommon / Pack) == 9 Packs
18 Rare / (1 Rare / Pack) == 18 Packs
21 Uncommon / (3 Uncommon / Pack) == 7 Packs
9 Common / (3 Common / Pack) == 3 Packs

If you get 18 packs, then, on average, you will get:

6 Huge Rare (== 1 of each Huge Rare)
12 Huge Uncommon (== 2 of each Huge Uncommon)
18 Rare (== 1 of each Rare)
54 Uncommon (== 2 4/7 of each Uncommon)
54 Common (== 9 of each Common)

If you get 18 packs, then, on average, you will get:

6 Huge Rare (== 1 of each Huge Rare)
12 Huge Uncommon (== 2 of each Huge Uncommon)
18 Rare (== 1 of each Rare)
54 Uncommon (== 2 4/7 of each Uncommon)
54 Common (== 9 of each Common)

Can you do a comparison with War of the Dragon Queen's distribution? Of course that assumes buying a crate, buy them individually and there is no telling what you will get.

Reaper Mini's is already coming out with new stuff (not really designated for 4e but they use names like):

03321: Damien, Helltainted Wizard - who comes with an orb, staff, and wand
03315: Tiviel, Hellborn Rogue
03316: KarDrakir, Dragonman Warrior (or pretty much any Reptus for a dragonborn)

There are tons of player character mini's out there by Reaper.

For tieflings, go check out Desert of Desolation; there's two uncommon tieflings in that set. Dungeon of Dread also had an uncommon tiefling. Doesn't help with the dragonborn, though.

Overall, it looks like a good selection to me. I'll probably order a case, and grab the rest that I want on ebay.

They are rares because players will want them. Simple marketing.

You can market yourself straight into the bear pit with that approach, however. Better to make a set where most customers want a decent portion of your set. If you don't give them enough, they'll eventually decide to buy something else instead.
