Age of Conan. Anyone played it?

I'm looking for a new game, and Age of Conan looks interesting to me. Unfortunately, they don't offer a demo of any kind, and $40, plus a 1-month subscription to try it out is a bit steep for a game i may not like.

So, what are your impressions, ye who have tried the game?

Players get 1 key to use for a buddy, gives a week of time. You need to use the buddies install discs though. If you don't, they charge you $3 for the download, but add on another 3 days for a total of ten.

So, this I did. I played for two days, then they locked my account because they think my credit card expires on 01-09 rather than 09-09 (like it says on the card and my account...).

So, I played it for a bit. Looks nice enough, patching was a pain, basic combat is decent enough, though I found I focused too much on basic attacks vs the combo/powers.

I'd definitely play it over Warhammer, it reminded me of Guild Wars in some ways. Warhammer was sluggish (not framerate, just gameplay) and just didn't appeal to me.

I played it and loved it. If you like single-player RPGs, action games and MMOs, and are tired of the cartoony family-friendly Tolkien fantasy every other MMO seems to be, it's your perfect game.

You can get it new from Buy.com for $20 plus shipping, and you get a free month with purchase like all MMOs.

I've been playing it off and on since release. I think it's pretty good in fact: about as close as they could get to the Howard/Frazetta/Arnie film mix that most people expect and still have the gameplay and "itemization" that MMORPG players demand.

It definitely needs some work still, but with any luck will be around and improving for a long time. Certainly, the graphics are a couple of generations beyond WoW, and it should "look good" for years and years.

I played it when it first came out for about 3 months. Felt like I was playing an Alpha build or something. DX10 was taken out the first day. Guild PvP was... I don't even know what was going on with that. Buggy as all hell. And I remember saving up money for a horse and then a week later they cut the price in half or so.

So IME the game is a big piece of poop.

When you say you're looking for a game, do you mean an MMO specifically?

No, not specifically an MMO. In fact, the less MMOy the game is, the happier I'll be. I generally find WOW a drag. I just downloaded the Mac version of City of Heroes, cause I've got some friends who play.

I like Neverwinter Nights 2, and I've downloaded some modules for that, but I've played through the expansion packs, and I'm looking for something Sword & Sorcery or High Fantasy related.

I'm also reading the Dark Horse Conan graphic novels right now, so I've got Conan on the brain.

Well...

For quick fun, Left 4 Dead is great. From your post it seems like you are looking more for an adventure game. Might I suggest Mount & Blade then. It's an indie game... graphics aren't anything to write home about (although there are free user-made mods that make the graphics much better) but the gameplay is great. You can download and play the game for free, although it restricts your character to level 7 which is pretty low.

Well, ain't this a kick. I got the game, but don't have enough space on my hard drive to play it! Since I'm running windows on a Mac in Bootcamp, I've only got 30 gb to work with, and it's a 32 gb game. Grr. Well, maybe when/if I pick up an external drive.

Please don't buy a new hard drive *just* to play Age of Conan. You'll make me cry! QQ
