Agents of Psi Scenario Idea....

First Post
For a campaign I want to run called Division Zero, the players will start off as level 6, and i will only allow the following advanced classes:

Negotiator, Field Scientist, Techie, or Soldier.

Player occupations will consist of either Military or Law Enforcement types. Eventually as the campaign progress's i will allow Battle Mind & Telepath.

The Scenario starts, when a being from the future called a DV8 (basically and advanced BattleMind human with Illithid Abilities) comes from the future to assassinate Division Zero before they even become Division Zero.

In the future where this DV8 comes from, anyone not registered with psionic abilities, or waaaay to powerful psionic abilities are labeled as DV8s and hunted down and killed.

To avoid this, the DV8 wants to assassinate the PCs and their future superiors.

To do this, I will have the Law Enforcement PCs investigate mysterious and bizarre deaths that dont make sense, and the Military PCs will be called in for Marshall Law when the DV8 goes on a rampage and starts mind controlling minions.

The Dv8 will be a human with Illithid special abilities, and a level 8 Battlemind/ level 2 Tough Hero, level 4 dedicated Hero.

If the PCs destroy the DV8, the government will fund a new Program called Division Zero, in which the Players will be a part of, and help as National Security against Psionic Deviants, and the study of Psionicism.

What do you think?

No, the scenario is fine. Actually it could be a lot of fun. It would be even more fun if one of the characters had reason to believe DV8 was their child. That could also be used to give DV8 a reason to not just anhilate the PCs.

Then you get into the whole temporal mechanics issue and all that fun stuff...

I am trying to go for a Terminator feel, but with more investigating, the action scenes will be devastating obviously, I'm prolly gonna tone down the Dv8 a little bit to give the party a fair advantage, but they are still gonna have to use their brains if they wanna stop the Dv8.

I want it to start out with players investigating deaths of people they either know thru the force (academy, FBI, military), most likely superiors or those thought to have had a high position in National Security, FBI or CIA.

The deaths will be soo bizarre and wierd that eventually the players will learn that the murderer is something otherworldly.

The possible outcomes as far as dealing with paradox are like this:

If the players are not killed and defeat the Dv8, they will wonder why if the Dv8 knew the past (or players future) why would he go back in time to commit suicide.

I was thinkin that the Dv8 didnt have enough information about the past events, and the people he killed were actually funding and supporting the decision to form Division Zero, but because of his actions, the first recruits of this agency surface (the PCs) and he would probably realise this in his death.

Soooo if the players survive, they will realise that they have some sort of destiny to fulfill, and realise that their actions will play an important part in the future.

I was thinkin of having the PCs run the beginnings of Division Zero, they have a limited monthly budget to hire recruits, buy weapons, vehicles, information, equipment, and deal with the rise of Psionic deviants and either hire them or kill them.

I was thinking of making it more of like the Computer game X-Com where the PCs handle almost every aspect of this special division, choosing whether they think a certain case is worth their involvement or not.

Anyways what do u think?

I had a couple of questions.

Is you game going to be low or high power psionics? If it was going to be high powered, how were going to deal with the reduced damage and healing that psions get compared to magic spells?

Eventually High Powered Psionics, and I think the balance between Psions and Magic Users are pretty well balanced for the most part:

Telepaths and Battle Minds dont have a chance of power failings while wearing armor, compared to an Arcane spellcaster who's wearing armor will only hamper him.

Anyways I'm not using any Arcane spellcasters, the world I want to GM is purely pscientific. ;)
