Air Template Octopus and the Grapple

Hi. I am wondering if anyone has an opinion on this...

If a wizard summons an octopus with the air template, should it succeed in a grapple, at what rate do you think it can fly straight up, dragging along the creature it is grappling (if at all)?

Is it taking -20 on its grapple check?

If not, it's considered grappled as well, and thus can't move.

If it is, it might be able to move, but I can't remember off-hand. Assuming it is, remember it can only fly with a light load or less...

just as a note, we're still working out the details, but in princliple i like the idea of a wizard being able to swap out templates for each other.

(and so far 3 different NZers have posted to this thread...)

That makes it pretty unlikely it will work, so thanks very much hypersmurf. However, said wizard will soon be an alienist, and the pseudonatural template gives true strike (+20 BAB) ability, which would bring the question back into play again . Altho' I can't recall if the air and the pseudonatural template would stack. (Whaddaya reckon Olive?)

my thinking is that the alienist class allows the other templates to be replaced by the psuedoantural, but I'm not sure if that's what the rule says...

actually, yes i am: "If the selected creature would normally be celestial or fiendish, the suedonatural template replaces that template" (T&B, p46)

So, that would apply to other tempates that were swaped out for the fiendish or celestial as well.
