alarm spell

you guys think a rouge can disable device an alarm spell? i tend to think so...

also do you think it can emanate through the ground to detect burrowing creatures?

i think it would be cool if it could but i'm unsure about this one.

how do you disarm a spell? there is nothing physically there to even detect.

I think if it was disarmible the DC would be in the description and it would have been mentioned.

the same way you would disarm an alarm spell trap.

yeah, i think if it was disarmable it should have been in the description, but i'd like to hear yer ideas about how an alarm spell trap is different enough from an alarm spell to allow a disable device attempt.

per DMG pg 115 magical traps. its not listed in their small group of 7 traps but following their rules it would cost 500gp and 20xp for a 1st-level caster.

I know that most "spell traps" have a small paragraph concerning disarming them. just thinking about creative ways to use and counter alarm spells. thanks for your time

All their examples are, obviously, damage type spells. I'm not sure this type of instance was even thought of. By their examples, it doesn't seem like it was.

Welcome to the grey area of DMing!! :D

thanks

yeah.. heh actually been DM'ing for geeze 20 years now... :)

here's what i came up with. no you cant disable alarm and it doesn't emminate through stone so....

*begin OGC*
Alarm is useful in protecting outside walls from stealthy assault. Clever commanders have been known to have elementals dig a series of very small (1” wide) shafts, connected by small side tunnels creating a sort of webbing, into the ground under their castles to allow spellcasters to place alarm spells at the bottom of the shafts. This helps prevent underground surprise attacks.
*end OGC*

hehehe, im an author now! :)

that way if something crosses one of those tiny shafts they trigger the alarm spell....
