Albenistan: Election Day

Albenistan Election Day

Sometimes just seeing what is going on in the world and some recent history is all one needs to come up with a good modern day adventure. I always felt realistic modern day adventures were some of the toughest things to come up with. It seems a lot of modern games incorporate a bit of fantasy or sci fi or even super heroes into them. This adventure though is for none of that. It is the type of adventure that one could see in our real world. It is also very military based.

Albenistan: Election Day is a D20 modern adventure by Sword’s Edge Publishing. It was written by Fraser Ronald. The ten page PDF is in color and uses real photographs from the US Department of Defense and Defenselink. The full color photos add to the realism of the adventure and really help set the tone and mode. The layout and books marks are also well done.

The adventure is designed for military characters though it does do a little bit with saying how non military characters might be involved. But once the actual adventure goes forth all assumptions are the player characters are with the UN Force over seeing a voting station. I think it would have been better to either just have the adventure for military personal or work harder and finding ways to apat the adventure for other non military character types. The country this takes place in is fictional. It is the same country that their trilogy of adventures Khorforjan Gambit, Qalashar Device, and Raid On Ashkashem take place in. Those modules are not needed for this adventure and Election Day can easily be done on its own. But the build up and familiarity to the situation one can gain by using those three modules will just make Election Day a much more enriched Role Playing Game experience.

The adventure takes place in a single day. The player Characters are assigned the task of watching over one of the polling stations. The adventure is a series of events that happen at certain times the player characters have to deal with. There is a wide variety of things going on and the players can have a lot of reason to be paranoid and not know who to trust. The module is fo0r d20 modern but the basic adventure idea and set up can easily be used in other modern game systems. It is just that any stats one will need will have to be done by the DM.

For a game of military player characters in the modern world this adventure will be very useful. It is small so would make for a good distraction from other traditional and longer military based adventures. The realism in the adventure is very much there. The players will have to think and interact well with NPCs and not just have to depend on their weapons and skill at arms. The adventure has specific orders and guidelines the player characters will hopefully adhere to and make the election day safe for all citizens.
