Spoilers Alien: Earth Spoiler Thread

As an aside, I'd never heard the term "mangetout" before Wet Leg introduced me to it with a song by that name on their new album. (Despite NZ being more British than the USA, they call them snow peas here, just like they do back home ...)
I think it’s because people eat them when they are pretending to be posh, and French sounds posher.

I do like mangetout though, but hate regular peas. And mushy peas are worse than green slime.

Sure!

I’ve always loved snow peas but not because I feel posh eating them! I just like the crunch and the flavor. (I also dislike regular peas and have no interest in ever trying mushy ones.)

Anyway, that’s getting rather off-topic! Sorry!

Episode 3, brief thoughts the morning after-

Things I loved-
a. Thematic editing. Yes, I saw what you were doing with the editing - see, e.g., the cuts involving the surgery of Hermit (again with the names). I approve.

b. Timothy Synthophant. Oh, he's bringing it. His character and his motivation has been developing nicely over three episodes so far, and he is chilling.

c. The Lost Boys. They are doing a great job exploring the issues with having kids in adult bodies, and (in one case) the growing realization that they aren't human.

d. Boy Genius. Other than the "prodigy speech," they've done a great job with the show, don't tell, about this character.

e. That Other Ridley Scott Movie. Yep, now that we've got the added complication of Tom Morrow (heh), we've fully set the field to answer the question, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"

Things I Am On the Fence About-
Wendy being able to hear the Aliens. We already got this in E2. Now we know in E3. But I've got questions. A lot of questions. Willing to go on the ride for now, but I am definitely ... curious ... to see this play out.

The budding conflict of Not-Wendy and Wendy. Is this a thing, a plot contrivance, or an excuse to learn more about Boy Genius?

Episode 3 got a bit weird towards the end. Plus hope we get to see Wendy V Alien in a flashback?!
Yeah, they definitely want us to be wondering why she's able to feel and hear the xenos in her head, when no one else can.

Which, fair, I am wondering that.

I liked this episode:
  • Timothy Olyphant getting to play a wildly different character than his usual is great.
  • Boy Kavalier is exactly as much as a scumbag as we suspected.
  • We're starting to see how the long duration of space trips affects the mega-corps.
  • The cyborg might be kind of sympathetic, sort of.
  • We see the inside of an alien egg for the first time ever and it's terrifying, gross and sort of sad.
  • And the little tadpole from inside a facehugger is definitely not going to be a problem.

Cool transition episode as we move to the next stage of the show. I think the "Not Wendy vs Wendy" makes sense, kids (and adults) are often vying for their superiors favor. We have the kids acting in various emotional ways, one of them wanted to prove she's "the best" is perfectly normal.

So it looks like they are using the larva in the lung of her brother. That's a weird risk to take, even if the lung is damaged beyond repair, just to avoid any conflict with wendy you would want to leave the brother as untouched as absolutely possible. they could likely dig up any old lung or body part they wanted if that was the goal. But hey Cavalier is literally in the name!
