Alien life and Earth

Do aliens exist? More than likely. Given the vastness of the universe and the amount of galaxies in said universe at least a handfull are bound to have life on them. Although I won't guess on if those planets have a form of life that we'd be anywhere close to recognizing as life!

Have we been visited? Not likely. I don't buy into all the stories from the various trailer parks either. IF there is intelligent life out there that has visited us, why would they only snatch the stupid? (Valid point, IMO, but very tongue in cheek.)

Oh? When you visit someone else's home, do you go on a campaign to eradicate all the mice that might live in the walls? When you go out to a park, do you start trying to kill off all the squirrels? Why should visiting aliens try to eradicate anything?

When you visit a place, you don't try to make it your own. That only happens when you move in for good. And there's no sign that such happened.
Maybe they're studying us, the way we study marine wildlife, like tagging or implanting monitoring devices.

But once they get bored of their experiment, I look forward to the last breath of humaniti expires.

Dammit. I was going to post that.

Let me present another point of view:

It is well know (in biological sciences) that a much diversified biosphere is much more resilient (as a whole) than one with but a few species.
Now, as human beings (and westerners) we consider ourselves rich when we have much; but then (for a game related example) we are more rich if we have 40 various d20 supplements than 40 copies of the PHB. What a great example, ahem... :heh:
Last but not least: tigers, lions, bears, and wolves among other animals, are dangerous, but we nonetheless want to keep them alive, or in zoos, even if taking care of being protected from them.

So, I will say that our hypothetical aliens are much happy to find another intelligent (or well, having some traces of intelligence and organization how imperfect) specie, that adds to the galactic biodiversity. In fact, they could be well tempted to intervene in such a way as to prevent us from destroying ourselves and the biosphere, as from the alien point of view, the loss would be invaluable (in terms of richness from biodiversity). The fact is, life at the microbial level is probably common throughout the galaxy, but the chances for a technologically developped specie in the same time frame is extremely rare. So aliens cannot afford to lose it.

A friend of mine came up with a rather odd vision of 'aliens'. He claims that they are humanity in an evolved state and are time travelers searching for their missing link - us.

Yeah. You remind me of that girl holding up a welcome sign in the beginning of ID4: Independence Day film. A lot good that did her.

Trust me, humaniti is wasted on this universe.

Heh, my believes are the exact opposite of yours. I love all Humans and do not hate anybody. I beelive that we should forgive others as well. One thing that also bothers me is how some ridicule someone just because of what they like. As gamers, some of us might be familiar with this, so a lot of gamers in response hate that person or insult what that person likes. I think that we all just have different tastes and that you should not hate someone just because they made fun of something you like. I also think the future will be even better than now. :)

Sorry, can't trust you on that one.

If humanity really is that godawful - wicked, stupid, evil and mean - then as a human your judgement and motives in speaking are highly suspect. If humanity isn't so bad, then again we shouldn't trust you.

End result is that we should proceed as if humanity were, at worst, highly flawed but redeemable. In the end, what we are isn't important. What we may become is the issue.

...but what if he isn't human?! Maybe that's why he wants us to trust him! Infiltration! REG is evil! An Evil ALIEN SPY NINJA!!! ;)
