alignment and the studious use of the 'forget' spell

or where am i and why am i here and what the heck was i doing?

when dealing with fellow members who are about to do naughty things, a good cleric or druid can always cast forget on the person. this creates alot of confusion and generally embaresses the castee and usually teaches the character a nice little lesson.

example: you walk into the local magic shop. this magic shop is a dark-wizard's paradise unknown to you. The dark-wizard in charge says he'll only sell the party magical items in exchange for lives.

well, the non-cleric goes hunting and brings back some ants.
the dark-wizard looks at him like an idiot and says nope no soap. i want human lives. At this, the cleric and the dm have a quick chat. This goes against the cleric's and the other character's alignment. So. how to stop it.

The cleric decides to cast forget, thinking this will be a good way to stop the other character from doing something naughty.

So when the other character goes up to the local orphanage and makes an appointment, the cleric casts forget. he forgets and tries again. This time, the orphanage elders shut the door in his face thinking he's nuts. and it goes on from there. In the end, the other character gets saddled with a cute little urchin for his troubles and the cleric is rolling on the ground laughing.

I forget what was the point of this thread.

Figures. A minute ago you were actively participating (I thought your arguments about alignments and orphans were great, btw), and now you "don't know anything about it". Hey, wait a minute.... Jakathi!?;)

it was me my brother and sister playing in second edition days

at the time, it never entered my brother's mind. he was the naughty character, i was the cleric and there were no other shops we knew of that sold magic. so each time he tried to get a kid a various places, i cast forget. and at the time, the Dm allowed me to cast it as many times as a wanted. It was pretty funny.

It was like ok. I want to make an appointment now why are they are they treating me like I'm nuts?

Um, can he not go to a different shop, or would that be too sensible? ;)

Depends on how strict the DM is on meta-gaming, since that's what it would clearly be. If he has forgotten the first visit, why would he think to try somewhere else?
