Alignment Situations V

First Post
Now to build more on the party & city from AS3 & AS4. We’ll call the city Volan.

The party survived the last encounter with the sailors and they decide to gather some more information about Volan. The party discovers that the local laws are rather loose and the citizens are usually free to do as they like as long as they pay their taxes. The guards only protect the citizens and could care less about non-citizens.

Situation A: The party also finds out that a ship load of slaves just arrived at the docks. The party discovers that most of the slaves will go to the ruler of the town and will be used for the construction of a new palace. The remaining slaves will be sold at auction this afternoon to the highest bidders.

Question 1: How would each party member react to this information?
LG:
NG:
CG:

Situation B: The party decides to go down to the docks to get more information. They find the ship that transported the slaves and there are about 30 slavers escorting the slaves on to the docks and putting them into various groups. The slaves are made up of various races (humans, elves, Halflings, etc.) and range from men and women.

Question 2: How would the party deal with the slavers and slaves?
LG:
NG:
CG:

Situation C: The party decides to go down to the docks to get more information, but the slaves have already been unloaded and there is no one at the ship mentioned. The party then decides to go to where they heard the auction will be held. They just arrive as the first slave is being described for auction. There appears to be about 10 slavers watching over 20 slaves and a crowd of 50 people watching the first slave described.

Question 3: How would the party deal with the slavers, slaves, and crowd?
LG:
NG:
CG:

LG: Seek to change these slavery laws through the current judicial system. Talk to the politicians that run this city. See if any of them disapprove of these slavery laws and help them change the slavery law using the current judicial system.
NG: Help free the slaves the most prominent way. If this means trying to change the laws, so be it. If this means plotting a jail break, then go for it.
CG: Help free the slaves any way possible, as long as it doesn't go against his moral code. For example, he might want to try and break them out of their bonds, but not at the expense of killing guards who might not be evil, but are just doing their job.

Question 2: How would the party deal with the slavers and slaves?

LG: There is nothing he can do at this moment. The law here is the law, and he has to respect that until he can change that. He may not like it, but becoming hostile in this instance would not help further his cause.
NG: Again, he could go either way. Whichever plan seems more appropriate at the time. Either try and change the current laws as the LG person, or try to free the slaves using subterfuge like the CG person.
CG: He would try to devise a plan to free the slaves. He might not want to react at this moment. I think the CG person would like to free them stealthily rather than start an all out melee battle with the slavers. He would be wise to choose a better locale to fight these slavers, if he did choose to fight them at all.

Question 3: How would the party deal with the slavers, slaves, and crowd?

LG: He would be appauled. I think he would try to purchase as many slaves as he could afford, then give them their freedom. At the same time, the LG person knows it isn't their responsibility to buy all the slaves and set them free. He would do what he could at the time, then REALLY try and change the laws in the town.
NG: I think in this instance, the NG person would actually do the same as the LG person. Buy and free as many slaves as he could afford. To do anything else at this time would only hurt their cause.
CG: Same as LG and NG guy. Although, he might go as far as to try and use the town's resources for such a thing. For example, if the CG person was a Rogue, he might pick the guard's pockets and us the money he got from that to pay for their freedom.

I just want to mention that even though each alignment may have a different view on what is the "best" way to handle each situtaion, they all should come to some sort of agreement on what course of action they are going to take. No one person should act out individually. They are a party after all, and one person's actions will reflect on everyone else. They may not like the final consensus, but they should respect it.

Example: If the LG person is talking to the local magistrate, and he is getting him to agree that slavery is wrong. It will only hurt his cause if the CG person stages a "jail break" of the slaves and get's spotted doing so. The authorities may link the two together which will only hurt the LG person in trying to change the laws judicially.

Now sometimes that CG person has speak with the law and make changes that way, for the greater good. And sometimes that LG person has to help break slaves out of their bonds, using stealth and/or force, again for the greater good. You need to pick and choose your battles, always considering the "bigger picture" when doing so.
