D&D 5E Alignment

There are many mechanical effects tied to alignment. So it's somewhat important.

Its also -in game- important as there are literal Outer planes that correspond to alignments, and where you tend to go on death.

Players can choose whatever alignment they want. I simply note what alignment they actually are (for the purposes of game effects where it matters).

If you want to be a LG Fighter who engages in frequent murder or genocide, and generally thinks of themselves as 'a good man, only doing what needs to be done' good for you. Play that character.

For game mechanics purposes (and in the eyes of the Gods) you're Evil.
