All about Arrow Mind

Looking through here, the spell arrow mind has come up a few times. I've never seen it before. Can someone tell me evrything about it, and if possible what book it is in. (Hope I got the right forum)

It's in Complete Adventurer, and basically turns your bow and arrow combination into a melee weapon (in addition to being a ranged weapon) for 1 minute per CL. You threaten the area within your normal reach, you may make AoOs with your bow, and you do not provoke an AoO if you fire when threatened.

It only applies to actual bows, and not crossbows or other missile weapons.

Well that's really a question for your DM. Obviously it's not on the permancy list since it came out after the PHB. However, I don't see any reason why it couldn't be made into a constant effect item. So that you would always be under its effect. I certainly plan to get that embeded in my bow at the first opportunity for my archer character.
 

what would be a descent price to enchant a bow with this?
a +1 bonus?

I like the excistance of this spell, i just thionk the duration is a bit long, compared to the other immedeate / swift action spells in Complete Adventurer. IMHO the duration should be 1 round as an immedeate action, 1/lvl for swift and 1 min per lvl for standard action casting times.

This spell safed our ranger last session, and with that prevented a TPK, if a verry hard 3 way battle, with 5 druids, a deamon and us.

I'm not aware of any other spells that change duration like that so I don't think that's necessary. Also it is of zero usefulness outside combat.

It wouldn't be put on the bow as a +X enchantment, it would be an additional flat rate power. Nominally speaking it probably should be priced like this

1x1 (level Squared) x2000 (base cost) x 2 (multiplier for a continuous or use activated item where the spell has a duration of 1min/lvl)

or

1x1x2000x2 for a total of 4,000 gp. Your DM may wish to price it higher. Though obviously its not a spell like true strike, which gets rapidly obscene if it functions continously. 4k gold sounds reasonable to me.
 

I certainly wouldn't allow it continuously, it takes away the one limiting factor that using a bow has. If you have Arrow Mind up all the time, why ever bother with a melee weapon again? Archery becomes the superior style in just about every aspect.
