All Bets Are Off

I have a question regarding the secondary attack of All Bets Are Off from the Pit Fighter paragon path.

Do all the normal bonuses (enhancement on weapon, weapon focus, proficiency) apply?

What about when you use a bloodclaw weapon? Can you apply the damage bonus again? If so, you pay the hp cost again right?

Thanks! :)

That's an interestingly unclear piece of writing.

Although the power has the Weapon keyword, the flavor text clearly states that the secondary attack is an unarmed attack.

I would apply only the +2 bonus granted by the power, removing all weapon-related bonuses, but adding any possible bonuses that improve the fighter's unarmed attacks (Weapon Talent: One-Handed Weapons, for example).

In the end, Its best just to ignore the flavor text and ignore the fact that its 1d6 instead of [w]

Its a weapon power. It has a mellee attack. It has a damage roll. It has no exceptions to normal weapon type attacks stated. Treat it like every other attack, just only roll 1d6. The results (such as weapon powers, crit rolls, etc) may clash a little with the flavor text, but there is no rules reason to treat the attack as anything but a weapon attack with all rights and privileges.

If you aren't told to ignore the weapon properties in a weapon attack, don't ignore them.

Blood claw weapons will work just as they normally do in cases of multiple attacks, however that might be.

Yes, in my opinion, you certainly get the bonuses. The matter has been brought up in a few threads, by the way (like here).

As for the bloodclaw weapon, I'd say you could use it on the secondary attack, if you paid the hit point cost again. And, as written, you would deal triple the amount of damage with the "punch" as well, if your weapon is two-handed.

cheers

In my opinion, the strict rules give you the bonuses, the logic doesn't give you the bonuses, and in any case its not imbalanced to give you the bonuses, so I, as a DM, would probably let you have them.

What Cadfan said. The fighter in our epic campaign opens up with All Bets are Off nine times out of ten, and I've never considered the idea of telling him he loses his weapon benefits from it.

Considering Most fighter do not in fact have a free hand to punch people in the face with (95% are using a shield), it's the whole flavor text that doesn't make sense.

I imagine my fighter using the pommel of his sword instead.
