All I need to know I learned from D&D

When I worked on the Mythica team a few years back we had an office 2E game to get our heads around the viewpoint of Norse gods... neat times!

Well, I learned English by reading the AD&D books.

At one time my English teacher wondered where I knew all those odd words from...

Anyone else use D&D in class/at work for something like this?

Use a wide variety of games in class/ work with kids and undergraduates. D&D is not suited to delivering the 'soft' skills we're after as well as lighter systems but roleplaying works in many contexts.

At school that might be simple LARP or a system like Traveller. At university it tends to be more case-based learning, scenario planning, . . . e.g. more likely to be told the satellite's out of action: how you going to fix it; or your nuclear reactor is about to meltdown and the helicopter's out of action.

The motivation and the 'teaching'/ tutoring benefits go hand in hand.
