All spells...why hasn't it happened yet?

Why hasn't someone designed a d20/ogl magic system that utilizes ALL spells for use by a "magic" using class? One class...all spells.

Example...a wizard or mage or whatever can have access to all 1st level spells...arcane and divine.

Er, or perhaps I didn't understand your question -- are you asking about systems like Arcana Evolved?

Nah -- AE has defined spell lists for each class. I think he just means one unified spell list. Or maybe even one spellcasting class and that's it.

I totally agree, btw -- I don't see the harm in a wizard having healing spells or a cleric having offensive spells. The thing that is a sacred cow is the notion that wizards shouldn't have armor, and that clerics shouldn't throw fireballs.

Sure, the AE classes each have different charts of how many spells they can prepare and cast, but there is no difference between divine and arcane magic. Magic is magic. The biggest difference is that only Magisters get automatic access to the "complex" spells, but that doesn't mean a greenbond can't spend a feat to get some more spells, etc.

In Arcana Evolved, the Magister can cast all simple and complex spells. An exotic spell require a feat to learn. Most other spellcasters can only cast simple spells, and possibly certain complex spells.

I've hated the arcane-divine split for quite some time. I'm sick of the sacred cow that wizards can't cast healing spells; it seems the designers of D&D are holding on to this shred of the old D&D, all the while adding loads and loads of "wizardy" type offensive spells to clerics and druids. Bleh.

I don't think clerics should get spells at all; I think they should get "divine blessings" according to their deity's domains that act as SLA.
