1055/ World production of gold to date is about 125,000 tons. Enough to form a solid gold cube with sides 62ft long

fom the website "science first", what percentage of this are your adventurers carrying?

so, 125,000 tons of gold, that's 250,000,000 lbs of gold...at 50 gp per lb(pg 196 phb) that's 12,500,000,000 gp if ALL the gold in the world were minted.

given that by dmg standards, a 20th lvl charcter should have about 760,000 worth of "stuff"....a party of 4 20th lvl folks would have .024 % of the worlds gold :D

i wonder how that stacks up to bill gates?

Good lord! That's even more gold pieces than the number of chickens in Greyhawk.

(per DMG, p.137: A metropolis has a 100,000 gp limit. A chicken costs 2 cp, and you can buy a number equal to the gp limit times the city population divided by 20. For a metropolis with 30,000 people, that equals 30000 x 100000 / (20 x 0.02), or 7.5 billion chickens.)

So, what does this do to those myths of cities made out of gold. I figure bricks of gold would add up fast in making that giant cube.

All that Glitters

Does anyone remember the module by the name "ALL THAT GLITTER"... It was water not gold in the end... My players hated me for that... ;)

Hey, these gold coins are filled with chocolate...

...mmmmm, chocolate.

I doubt the coins of the realm are *solid* gold, what's the usual/average of gold to other metals in gold coins of the Middle Ages? That will probably allow for a *lot* more coins! *laugh*

but this isn't even all the coins, all the gilding, crowns, fancy buttons and jewelry, and this amount is to this era!!

and i am imagining that we as denizens of the 21st century mine gold even faster than dwarves.;)

i mean, i know it is fantasy and all, but it just kills me how much gold some of my p.c.'s have seen compared to how much there is.
