Alt.Half-Dragons

I had originally used the baseline template in the MM as a guideline for the numbers that I got in the file. You are also correct in assuming that I intend to use my new alt.half-dragon template. I made it because the original struck me as a little bland.

The original is very bland. I think you're on the right track, you just need to lower some of the bonuses (except for the white who I found rather weak). I used the +4ecl of the MM version as a base line.

Now the Prismatic and Force Dragon, I thing you should spereate and do differently. These two are so much more powerful then any other dragon that you need to either power them way down or allow them to give bonus HD.

I see. Why do you say the bonuses are too high? I know the force & prismatics are uber powered but that is because the full-blooded version are obscene. I just added a some things to the template, under special quality, and should have it up on my site shortly at the same address that I gave in the first post.

First you have natural armor bonuse of +6 or +8. That's a nice increase from the normal +4 in the MM's template. NA bonuses are very nice.

With the attribute bonuse it seems that you've spread out the bonuses, but increased their number. A bronze gets +4 to all attributes except dexterity. That's very good. For the most part your dragons get better bonuses then the MM template.

I like the additional powers you gave the half dragons, but I relly think the red and the Crystal should get something.

Looking kewl now!

Hey, I do have one quick suggestion....

On the breath weapons make the DCs 10 + 1/2 HD + Con modifier. That is the normal formula for determining the DCs for breathweapons...

Actually, it would be cool to have scaling DCs for the bresth weapon. It would make the breathe weapon npot os powerful at early levels (except fot the damage, but that could be scaled as well), and at higher levels make the DC actually matter.

This is just for the basic ten dragons found in the MM. I'll explain how I came up with these numbers so you can easily determing if my logic pays out. I'm only concerned with Attributes and natural armor bonuses.

Natural Armor: I took the nat armor bonus for an Adult of the species, divided by 3 and rounded down

Black: +6
Blue: +6
Green: +6
Red: +7
White: +5
Brass: +6
Bronze: +6
Copper: +6
Gold: +7
Bronze: +7

As you can see the bonuses are more even for the different types, and only slightly lower then what you had.

Attributes: Basically, I took the stats for the adults, subtracted 10, halved the result, rounded down to nearest even number, and that was the bonus.
Black:+6 Str, +2 Con
Blue: +8 Str, +4 Con, +2 Int, +2 Wis, +2 Cha
Green: +8 Str, +4 Con, +2 Int, +2 Wis, +2 Cha
Red:+10 Str, +4 con, +2 Int, +4 Wis, +2 Cha
White: +6 Str, +4 Con
Brass:+6 Str, +4 Con, +2 Int, +2 Wis, +2 Cha
Bronze: +8 Str, +4 Con, +4 Int, +4 Wis, +4 Cha
Copper: +6 Str, +4 Con, +2 Int, +2 Wis, +2 Cha
Gold:+10 Str, +4 Con, +4 Int, +4 Wis, +4 Cha
Silver: +8 Str, +4 Con, +4 Int, +4 Wis, +4 Cha

Doing it that way, these actually look a little better then what you have. But I was trying to get bonuses that reflected directly off the scores of their heritege.

Anyone, I hope these numbers in someway can help you.
