Alternate Damage System

This is sort of based on the vitality point/wound point system. Instead of getting a number of wound points equal to your contitution, is there any reason why "wounds" couldn't be subtracted directly from your contitution score? For example, if your CON is 16 and you take 3 wounds, CON drops to 13 (with modifier adjusted accordingly)? It seems that the decrease in the CON modifier would approximate fairly well the effects of actual injuries.

Sado,

Basically, if you're using a VP/WP system, and you're saying that WP are Con points, then what you're doing is making criticals extremely deadly. Anything that improves a chance at getting a critical or at making the confirmation roll becomes more dangerous.

Furthermore, Power Attack now becomes a real problem. Anytime someone scores a critical with power attack, it's almost a sure kill. With all that extra damage, scoring more than 16 points won't be that hard, and it's not that common that PCs have Constitution scores over 16. Even those with a 20 Con, will now have a 4, and will lose tons of hit points from all the Con damage.

If you're going to use the VP/WP system, stick with Wounds and not Con damage, and still be careful with those high-damage criticals.

The VP/WP system is already rather deadly. Since WP = CON, having WP deal damage directly to CON would only have the effect of reducing someone's saving throws and VP pool--which would make sense, seeing as how they're injured.

IMO it's an elegant way to deal with that system, and if I was going to use it that's exactly how I would do it.
