Alternate Game System for the Forgotten Relams

I recall coming across a website a while back for someones Forgotten Relams campaign yet the game rules mentioned didn't sound like D&D 2nd or 3rd edition.
So this got me thinking...
What might be some good alternate game systems that would be compatitble for use in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting?
Does anyone here run a campaing in FR under a different game system? If so, do you find it superior to using D&D 3rd edition rules?

Depending on how "high magic" you want, and how much work you want, any of the following would work ok:

Harnmaster, Rolemaster, HARP, Runequest, WEG's new d6 product, GURPS, even good 'ole 1st edition AD&D, or one of the Basic D&D sets (my preference being the Rules Cyclopedia version of D&D...)

I would love to run a game set in Waterdeep in which the players are bodyguards to the masked members of the council of Lords using the Riddle of Steel system. Meetings in alleys, rooftop chases, gritty sword-fights in alleys. Woo-hoo.

Burning Wheel would be a great fit, particularly for an Elven or Dwarven game.

Ars Magica could make for a fascinating campaign in or about Thayan Wizards but I'd probably use Riddle of Steel for that too.

Burning Wheel is at www.burningwheel.org

The Riddle of Steel can be found at www.theriddleofsteel.net

Ars Magica has a 5th Edition out and is by Atlas games, whose URL escapes me at the moment.

Ars Magica's 5th edition is not yet out, but will be shortly . You can get the 4th edition pdf for free at RPGNow.
It WOULD make a great system for a Wizards of Thay game, but the Houses will need to be reworked. [walks off mutering...]
