Alternate Gaming History - What If?

I think it was meant to be a joke game anyway, just the title sounds hilarious if you know White Wolf products. Everything is "X: The Something". You could have Drunk: The Retching, or Bimbo: The Bouncing or whatever you wanted.
It's got a web page and a card game, are you sure?

For some reason I just remembered something while browsing the boards.

A while back, White Wolf put out a horribly offensive game wherein the PCs were all pimps. This was done in the spirit of good humor, but like all things, it was swiftly taken out of context (and it is arguable whether or not such a game is justifiable in context, but let us put that aside - it is not the question I propose.)

I wonder what would have happened to WotC if they had put that out. Would there still have been boycotts, or would people have simply been forced to realize that they will buy WotC products no matter what?

Additionally, how would WotC's response have differed from White Wolf's?

Note that I am not asking for discussion of the politics involved; I am merely trying to grasp how the two gamer companies function differently.
Woah, I'd like to go on record as saying that the game was a pretty good game, nice mechanics and the theme is not that bad when played with mature adults. They still sell and produce the game as far as i know.

I don't think Hasbro would have published that material. There's just no way that a corporation would let that fly. First wotc doesn't produce non d and d related board games. So you're talking about one of the other hasbro companies doing it, and there are so many radars it would have to fly under. If somehow a game like that got out, it would hit main stream and get a lot of attention. The game would probably be pulled within 2 weeks and all associated with fired.

I think you'll find that White Wolf is also a corporation. So I don't think that is it.
I should probably emphasize mainstream corporation traded on the stock exchange. CNN would report on a pimp game by Hasbro, only a gaming website would report on white wolf.

WotC is bigger and has more to lose?

WotC is bigger and thus a bigger target?

Yes, as an entity of Hasbro, the largest toy maker in the world, yes it is a bigger fish. The public won't care that its a subcompany, the world will just see the word "Hasbro makes game exploiting women".

That's an interesting choice of words. I agree that a boycott by people who don't use a product to begin with will never be successful, but it's hardly persecution.

Also, is there a reason you think that RPGs are not more popular now than they were then?

Uh, all the people playing them....Various people in the industry have said that all that noteriety helped drive sales. And while WotC likes to come and say every so often "sales are better then ever", its hard to deny that D&D was a popular phenomanon then in a way then that it just hasn't been since.

That's a bizarre turn of phrase. Are you suggesting that if WotC had released it, people would have bought it regardless of their feelings on it, just because they produced it?

Let me also ask you this: do you own the Star Wars RPG (all three versions), d20 Modern, d20 Call of Cthulhu and the Wheel of Time Roleplaying Game in addition to D&D?

Do you own Alternity? How about The Primal Order? Do you play Magic: the Gathering? Do you play Pokemon?
