Alternate Rules for turning undead

Are there other rules for turning undead? I remember someone somewhere talking about something but can't remember the specifics.

I thought instead of it working/not working there was a sliding scale that weakened or stunned or something undead on turn checks.

What book was this in?

I could be completely wrong. I could be just making this up.
