[Alternity]Anyone Still Playing?

A recent thread on Gamma World over at rpg.net caused me to pull out my Alternity Gamma World rulebook, which got me thinking about this great game that had its life cut short by TSR's woes. Is anyone still playing Alternity? On a regular basis? As occassional one shots?

I think I am going to make it my post-apocalyptic "pick up" game for those nights when my 1E group is missing enough members that ToEE would become an abaitor.

Coicidence!

I just started playing in a Dark*Matter game last night. It's the first time I've played, and I find it's a great system.

The game was also hilarious. The group is made of a psionic lawyer, an Celebrity daredevil criminal, a paraniod survivalists soldier who stole a top secret government weapon, a drunken doctor, and a Asian CS grad student.

Actually, Alternity was cut short by development and then the launch of 3e, however they pretty much gave a full line of products before doing so.

My group played Alternity pretty heavily, back in the day, especially Dark*Matter; we also play tested Alternity's Gamma World book.

We're currently playing a mini-campaign of Star*Drive, but we fall back to Alternity, a lot, when we need a one-shot or a mini-campaign as a break in-between our longer stints of Arcana Evolved (which came from our Arcana Unearthed campaign).

Not only do I love the system, but I enjoy most all of its settings, too.

I never did get the chance to play Alternity, but I do have most of the books. It always looked potentially great. Glad to know there's a few players out there, maybe one day I will get the chance after all ...

I have all the books except for the original boxed set. Most of them I picked up used on eBay.

I pull them out every now and then. I ran a Dark*Matter one-shot last New Year's Eve (which hopefully will be continued this next New Years Eve) and another one for another group this summer. I still think Alternity does modern and future better than D20 Modern and D20 Future. Besides, Dark*Matter, Star*Drive, and Gamma World were great settings.

Looks like I'll be running it in two weeks. I like most of the Star Drive setting, the bit's I don't like are the funky races and too many different nations.

I'm trying to come with some kind of Traveler type character generation, but haven't started.

I've loved Alternity for quite a while, but never had a chance to run it--finally will in a few weeks at one of the tri-annual Chicago gamedays. The Alternity Dark*Matter book is gorgeous, and while the d20 one isn't too bad either, I'm still not sure I buy using d20 for a modern game. I like Alternity's task resolution mechanic, and I'm a pretty big fan of having multiple types of damage.

If it goes well, I might have to start thinking of doing more frequent Alternity games in the future.

I don't play it anymore, but I still have the books. A lot of the stuff from the StarDrive setting has ended up in my d20 Future Homebrew.

I played some with Friadoc when I lived in Idaho, and a bit with Jeff Ibach in NJ, but I've never been able to get up sufficient steam for a whole game. I'd love to do a mini campaign of Dark*Matter, and perhaps with my current group I will one of these times. Right now I'm gearing up to run them through a Cthulhu campaign though, so they might be ready for some D*M after that.
