Alvin Maker anyone?

I recently discovered the Alvin Maker series by Orson Scott Card adn I am just completely enthralled by these books. They're just sooooooooooo good...

I read the first three - Seventh Son, Red Prophet and Prentice Alvin - and am now on Alvin Journeyman.

I hear that the Crystal City will be out in November, with at least a couple more to follow, including maybe one with Taleswapper's stories? I'm excited about that.

Anybody else a fan?

I'm a fan of the first two books. But the third completely threw away the series for me. It got far too preachy, and simply ignored all the subtlety of the first books.

There is a short story in the Alvin Maker series in a short story compliation......ah crap... I think the word "Legends" is in the title. The short story is '"The Grinning Man" and features Davy Crocket and a Bear.

This same compliation also has a Dark Tower story in it, by Stephen King, a Terry Pratchet Discworld story, a short story as a prelude to Terry Goodkind's "Wizard's First Rule" and a whole mess of other really cool stuff. I've read most of it, but haven't been able to pick up a copy of my own yet. Worth your money, if you can find it.

The title is Legends. The editor is Robert Silverberg. It comes in a trade paperback form, and as a trilogy of standard paperbacks.

Each story within is by an established author, and is set in one of that author's well known universes. All stories were written for this comilation.

The authors are :Raymond Feist, Terry Pratchett, Robert Silverbert, Ursula K LeGuin, Tad Williams, George RR Martin, Stephen King, Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind, Anne McCaffrey, and Orson Scott Card.

You gotta love Silverberg. Few other editors have enough weight to pull in stories by so many heavy hitters at once. :)

Great series and one that I think would make a way cool RPG setting - Knacks = Feats of course

I read the first four last year, on the recommendation of a relative. At the time I didn't know there would be any more in the series, and was quite annoyed at having to wait so long for Book 5.

I believe Card's official website indicated there would ultimately be seven books in the Alvin Maker series, but he's got other projects and it could be some time before we see Books 6 & 7.
