Always buy from Discount RPG

While I haven't placed any orders with DiscountRPG yet (although I do know Ed and can say he is a really nice guy), I've had enough experience with online retailers to say that anytime you have to use the post office for shipping (whether you have a choice or not) you should expect that delays and lost packages are part of the deal.

Now, I understand your displeasure, but have you contacted DiscountRPG and informed them about the long delay? It is quite possible that they would do something to compensate your wait, such as X% off your next order. But if the first thing you've done is come here and throw up a thread that implies the retailer is entirely at fault, then you may have also burnt a bridge needlessly. As others have said, with the information you've given us, it certainly appears that the fault lies with the post office and DiscountRPG should not be the one to take the heat for this incident.

I have bought literally hundreds of RPG books online, almost always via the post office, and I have never had a book get lost in the mail.

Anyway, you think 5 days is a delay? Gah. I've fought with people for months on ebay trying to get them to ship the books to me. And dealt with some really slimey retailers who claimed to have never received my money order in the mail, let shut up when I produce evidence that not only did they, but they cashed it.

And don't even get me started on Amazon.com.

Usually though, media mail is pretty quick. It depends on the area though. I never buy anything from Chicago, period, because mail from there usually takes 2-4 weeks to get to me, despite only being about 300 miles away.

Not slander. Maybe the guy is inaccurate in his statements but it is hardly actionable. (OK, I fess up - I'm a lawyer).

Besides, there are better targets to be angry at than either the shipper or Discount RPG. Anyone who has had dealings with New Wave knows that they are far worse with their operation.*

Yep. Just agreeing on the slander thing. (That's 2-0 lawyers for those scoring at home.)

The real reason I am replying is to make a fifteen paragraph rant about the horrible customer service I received on multiple occassions from New Wave - once shame on them, twice shame on me and all that. I'll cut my rant short and say - they're very bad and ignore you or even worse will lie to you.

Tell me about it, and they can't even keep their stories straight. I eventually got my stuff, but it took nine months to get most of my stuff, and another three to get a refund. A full year. The part they choked on was Grendel resin castings. First they said that it was shipped. Then they said it was out of stock at the manufacturer (it wasn't, I emailed them), then they said it was shipped again, then they said it was backordered, then they shipped the partial order, then... on and on and on. Meanwhile I went to Discounthobby.com and ordered it there, receiving the order in less than a week.
New Wave is the devil.

The title made me think they ripped you off but your explanation just makes me think you are impatient.

You bought a mail order product that took an extra 5 days in the mail? Is that what you are saying? - the horror!

They even gave you a tracking number so you know they were telling you the truth.

I hope you can find a discount place that meets your expectations.

I've never used Discount RPG either. But this sounds like a simple delay.

I've used Amazon quire a bit and they can be late with shipments. But they arrive.

Barnes & Noble's online store just sucks. I placed one order with them. It was delayed. I was told it didn't get "received". Had to call multiple times and eventually got sent TWO of the same order. Both of which I was charged for. I kept them, gave them out as gufts and swore to never use B&N online again...

A simple delay isn't that much of an issue...

UPDATE: Turns out Ed, the guy in charge at DiscountRPG gave me the wrong tracking number. I got my order yesterday.

I take back what I said about them, sorry. People here have made some good points. I should not blame them for the slowness of the postal service.

My big grief is with Amazon.

I ordered a new copy of my 3.5 players handbook (a fairly easy item to find) and it was 'delayed' for THREE months. By the time I got back to spain, I hoped online, went to Noble Knight, ordered it. Got it here in a MILITARY mailing address a week later, then go online and realized I hadn't cancelted the Amazon.com order. Went to their site, it was STILL delayed. Canceled it.

I don't buy rpg stuff through Amazon anymore. Too long everytime. Especially with the smaller publishers. Heard that Amazon has been slow in paying them for stock. Most won't deliver anything to Amazon without payment now from what I've heard. (granted that was a while back, but slow service still seems to be a rpg probme.)
