Always with the killing

In Shadowrun, when in doubt, show the client not only that you have control, but that you are in control. Clients like to know that the runners know the meaning of term "measured response". :)

You've already lost control at that point, though. If the GM is playing the client realistically, you're not going to get the job and you're going to take a bad hit to your rep no matter what you do.

It took a fair bit of smooth talking and concessions to pick up the job and our rep at that point. And it ended up being a set-up anyway (not that the Johnson knew that), which is why we unexpectedly spent a week out of the country.

It's Shadowrun. It's always a set-up.

Seriously, I don't think I've ever seen a Shadowrun mission that hasn't involved a betrayal by the client.

Ah, wait, we were once paid to babysit a top exec's daughter. It was boring and the PCs eventually dragged her onto a run (against my PC's adamant desires, mind you) and she, well, goblinized.

No client betrayal there, but THAT was hard to explain.

I apologise if this has already been said - I got to the 5th page of this topic and all I could think about was...

"... now we see the violence inherent in the system!".

Cheers, Al'Kelhar
