That's a very Lawful Neutral act, no good or evil involved.

Evil would have been buying a set, then pointing out they broke street date. ;)

Good would have been buying up all the copies (so they don't have any evidence that street date was broken) and giving them out to your gamer buddies.

Whether this is true or not, the books(and the information in them) are WotC's property. They have the right to provide them conditionally, and anyone agreeing to the conditions and then not following them is doing wrong.

Within reasonable limites, of course. See for example the doctrine of first sale.
