Amazing color photos from WWI

Must have been pretty rare. Never heard of it before (well, until a few days ago, on another board) and lots of photos I recall seeing from WW2 are B/W.

The color photo was invented in 1903 by the Lumiere brothers, and the French army was the only one taking color photos during the course of the war.
They have an almost unreal quality to the color pallette. Almost as if they had been colorized. It's probably because I'm so used to modern photographs.

I am of the opinion that these are fakes.

And everyone knows that no-one invented color cameras, but the world used to be black and white and one day it turned to color. Some cameras went into denial, and to this day refuse to take color pictures of the new, 'devil' world.

I've seen color video footage from that era. These seem real enough. If for no other reason than the sheer volume of them. Those are pretty neat.

edit: no, now that I think about it, the color video footage was from WWII, from late in the war. What's interesting is that early recording technology was around just early enough to allow Chopin to record some of his piano playing. It's really awful, but I do believe there is a recording of Chopin playing somewhere.

I have seen legitimate color photoes from that time period.

I have little knowledge of photography, but the process involved taking several picures of the same scene and combining them somehow. the resulting photos would sometimes seem a bit distorted

If these are real, they are quite a find. I do know that some color photos from the 1930s can seem a bit bright.

Do we have a photography expert in the house?
