[AMBIENT] PDFs with ISBNs

[Vankleek Hill, Ontario] Ambient Inc. is now adding ISBN numbers to all of our PDF and POD releases. ISBN numbers are an international tracking method used in the book sales and publishing industry for ease of re-ordering and scanning products, whereby each product has its own unique machine-readable ISBN.

Over the next few days, we will be uploading revised versions of our existing products with the new ISBNs to our vendor (RPGnow). As this is only a minor addition to the products in question, there will not be a general reissue of the products in question.

The ISBNs are as follows:

ISBN 0-9732818-0-4 = Three Arrows for the King - The Archer's Guide
ISBN 0-9732818-1-2 = Librum Equitis Compiled
ISBN 0-9732818-2-0 = The Kids Colouring Book
ISBN 0-9732818-3-9 = Crimson Contracts: The Assassin's Manifesto
ISBN 0-9732818-4-7 = Everyone Else
ISBN 0-9732818-5-5 = Portable Hole Full of Beer (this product contains no alcohol)
ISBN 0-9732818-6-3 = Thee Compleat Librum ov Gar'Udok's Necromantic Artes
ISBN 0-9732818-7-1 = Librum Equitis, Volume 1
ISBN 0-9732818-8-X = Librum Equitis, Volume 2
ISBN 0-9732819-0-1 = Son of a Portable Hole

Of course this caught my attention. Why does a pdf need an ISBN?
My guess, and I am in no way, shape, manner or form associated with Ambient, is that they need it for their Print on Demand versions.

They may also be looking at expanding to vendors like Amazon which, from memory, require their e-books to have ISBN's.

ISBNs are NEVER required for a product, but are the industry standard for the book trade and are used internationally by such. Many major vendors will not touch a product without an associated ISBN.

And yes, this allows us to expand our vendors to include Amazon.com

O Canada!

Getting ISBNs in Canada is the best! After hearing all of the horror stories about our friends in the US shelling out big $$, and all it took for us was a phone call!

Yeah!

Curious.... I wonder if we U.S.ers can go through Canadian channels???

Such are the trade-offs in life.

Canadians get free ISBNs, Americans get ... well, it'll come to me in a moment...
