[AMBIENT] Three Arrows For The King update

When we brought "The Kid's Colouring Book o Critters" to GenCon, it was designed as a digest-sized saddle-stitched product. When we began upgrading the material therein for the Celebrity Edition release, we elected to stay with the landscape format, just merging two pages from the digest into single landscape page for the Celebrity Edition PDF.

The reaction has been quite positive (although sales have been quite minimal), to the product (of course, it's the cutest thing we've ever released!) and to the layout and format.

Beacuse of this response, and the response to the SpiderBite Games releases in landscape format also, we are releasing Three Arrows for the King in both Landscape and Portrait versions. The Landscape version will be the "screen" version with all the pretty formatting, extensive bookmarking and pictures, and the portrait version will have significantly reduced art content, less graphical design elements (although it won't be a "bare bones" production - it will still have some art and graphical elements, just designed for ease of printing in B&W without chewing through your ink cartridge) and will be primarily designed for printing.

(As an aside: I actually really enjoy landscape formatted works when printed. I like the style when placed in a small spiral binding or three-ring binder, reading it at 90 degrees to how one reads a typical book)

Oh yeah, we are also dealing with the cover artist to see if we'll include a specific cover for the landscape edition, or just use the same portrait cover at the front of the document.

Three Arrows for the King is our upcoming release regarding archery and archers for the d20 system. It includes an archer core class, a significantly retooled archer-ranger variant core class (including a selection of new archer-ranger spells), several prestige classes (including one by Hong Ooi), archer multi-class paths, over a score of archery and missile-combat oriented feats, new uses for skills, new equipment and weapons for archers including a large selection of "exotic arrows", and a selection of new magic items.

Three Arrows for the King is currently slated for release in the third week of February, and will be available for sale at Ambient Inc.'s on-line storefront at RPGnow.

Ambient Inc. is a proud member of the digital publisher's group and will be releasing this product in PDF format with a POD (Print On Demand) version available shortly thereafter.

So did you guys and Morrus ever come up with a plan to merge your two books into one or is each a seperate path?

WIll your book be collecting any OGC material on archers already out there like tournament rules, feats and PrCs or 100% new?

No... it seems I have distinct communications problems with Morrus, my emails evaporate.

Same thing when I email Mongoose Publishing. Heck... same when I mail Mystic Eye Games with one of my accounts... My email seems to be the victim of a Great Conspiracy that eats email.

(sigh)

I talked with Tensen about it also, but the reality is that I had a majority of the work done on this product and had a distinct idea of where it would go. Plus I had commissioned artwork for it. If nothing else, that was the turning point for us.

As for OGC, we are (as with all our product to date), using some OGC in our product. Our archer is a variant on the one from the Sovereign Stone setting, and we have some of the ranger abilities from the EverQuest RPG in our Archer-Ranger.

Feats is where we have the most OGC, however. About half the feats are collected and modified from other (credited) sources. But overall, a majority of the material here is new and original - and most of the stuff derived from OGC is exactly that, derived from OGC. We have taken pains to modify material to suite the product and to mesh with the new rules introduced in the archer core class.

Looking forward to the release of this. Rangers and archers happen to be favorites of mine (along with rogues) and when I saw the announcement for this at digital publishing, I knew I would be buying it.:D

Same here. How much will it be?

Landscape Format

Yay! I'm really loving landscape format. Of course, it made the layout for the POD version of 101 Mundane Treasures a challenge. I ended up just doing a completely new layout (and Christopher did three more illustrations for the POD version).

I'm happy to see more people releasing landscape PDFs.

My next step is Palm-specific versions of PDFs. My landscape ones look awful on my Palm (and it's a color one so it isn't the color . . . it's the shape of the screen).

Well Phil, when your Palm OS editions come out, I'd love to see them and to hear hwo they are received.

Not a problem. I'm a big fan of sharing information on PDF sales and marketing. I feel that if many of us work together we can greatly increase the size of the PDF market.

I'm a little stumped on how to handle the Palm versions but I am working on it.

Probably only with Doug. Hal seems to get all emails. But I swear. Doug eats his email!!! Either that.. or his new baby comes over and hits the delete key :)
