Ammunition fired from a +1 Ranged Weapon

A +1 Bane arrow shot from a +3 bow results in a different enhancement bonus than a +3 Bane arrow shot from a +1 bow, for example.

Says you, I do not agree.

Both result in a +3 Bane arrow, as I see it.

You might be overcomplicating (or reading too much into) a relatively simple concept.

It becomes important when looking at Ockham interactions :)

That seems to me like it makes the Enhance Arrow special ability of the Arcane Archer a whole lot less useful then. I imagine that most Arcane Archers would have a +1 bow by the time they took the first level of the prestige class and a +2 bow by the time they took the third level of the prestige class.

This makes the Enhance Arrow special ability useless until the character has taken 5 levels in Arcane Archer (and possibly more).

Ayup. I suspect that the ability was carried over from the 3E version of the PrC, and under the 3E rules, the bow and arrow bonuses stacked.

If they did stack under 3E rules I may have a look at changing it back for the Arcane Archer. That is one of the main abilities of the class so it seems a little unfair that it gets hosed.

Letting them stack is slightly (though not outrageously, IMO) broken.

Under the 3.5 rules, if you want to fire a +2 arrow, you need to spend 8000gp for a +2 bow, or 50 +2 arrows.

Under the old 3E rules, you only need to spend 4000gp (2000 for a +1 bow, 2000 for 50 +1 arrows).

It gives archers a slight advantage versus melee fighters...but, in 3.5, where there are no longer damage reductions like "10/+2", stacking up plusses on a magic weapon isn't as important. IME, it's usually far more cost-effective to spend money upgrading a weapon with enhancements like holy, flaming, etc.
