It's an hommage to you guys!

PS: Are we going to some 4e NG goodies (soon)? It's been very quiet since Clark started his Classic 4e dreams.

Nice, thanks frankthedm. So it's a worthwhile power for brutes unless they have an awful chance to hit the group's defenders. It would also be pretty mean for soldiers too (the other suggested monster type), who have a better chance to hit AC.

WotC definitely noticed the call for "more damage," eh?

maybe i was not clear enough. the power to take -2 to hit in exchange for two attack rolls is Always better or equal unless the creature needs an 18 to hit. and even then, the trade might be worth it if you have a good crit.

20 to hit = 20 : Power 20 & 20
19 to hit = 19 & 20 : Power 20 & 20
18 to hit = 18, 19 & 20 : Power 20 & 20
17 to hit = 17, 18, 19 & 20 : Power 19, 19, 20 & 20
16 to hit = 16, 17, 18, 19 & 20 : Power 18, 18, 19, 19, 20 & 20

I have some vague recollection of Demogorgon being mentioned in a Dragonlance novel or something, too...

Short story ("A Stone's Throw Away" by Roger Moore), not by name, and in the early days of the setting when there were still things like drow running around. :)

Now, granted, he does share the GH Demogorgon's gender (the Mystaran version is a she). :)

Greyhawk and Mystara.

And Planescape, and by extension all of the 2e settings, though specifically appearing in a branded setting product might be less certain (like Dark Sun for instance he didn't).

I'm almost certain some references to Demogorgon show up in FR in a few places.

I like the themes but I hope a bit more effort is paid to make the themes more, um, thematic. More to the point, the mechanics should reflect the flavour.

In the case of Demogorgon why would the tentacles inflict fire damage when necrotic (in view of the capacity of the tentacles to cause rot since 1E), acid or even cold present themselves as types of damage more consistent with Demogorgon and where is from etc.... Even psychic damage makes more sense.
