Amusing Jump Detail

The jump is still part of a move action. And, in this case it's part of the Run move action which means it is in a straight line.

But Run isn't a move action. It's a full-round action.

has anyone tried:
1. step off the cliff
2. move <fall> 20 feet straight down
3. jump back up (DC 80 to land on top, or DC 48 for a medium creature to grab the ledge)

i dont think my DM will allow it

This is the best one yet! Unfortunately, I'm not sure that falling is part of a move. Interestingly, swimming is, so imagine a bunch of Kuo-Toa with high Jump skills swimming up to something and then bursting twenty feet out of the water to land on it. Heck, it could be a prestige class for the nasty things, even.

Flying is also movement, which gives us interesting manoeuvres like flying 20', jumping straight up 10', and then flying off in another direction. Quite useful for creatures with poor manoeuvrability.

That's a good point, Dr. Awkward. I stand (sit) corrected on more than one account. I guess you can't even run and jump. So, there is no running long jump, just a hustling long jump (to use the correct terminology). All those Olympic long jumpers are moving half maximum speed (at best). Don't tell them that though.
