Yeah guys, let's crunch the numbers, how many cats (house cats) would it take to kill an Ancient Red Dragon? You have as many cats as you wish at your disposal, and must devise a method, good luck!

For the unitiated, this topic was brought about when a player was looking at page 150 of the Players Handbook, saw the size comparion between Dragon and Cat.

Good luck!

Guidelines for cats:

1. No added Magic

2. No added Feats

3. No added Items

4. No character levels

5. No divine intervention

I know in straight up combat it wouldn't work, seeing as how they'd only hit on a critical...and the DR would pretty much negate damage. If this was a swarm, or mob, I wonder if you could hurt it with large enough numbers.

We conceived the idea of "choking" the dragon by feeding it, but then again it can breath fire.

When it was said any amount of cats, that means any amount.

And yeah ^ if you can think it up, and present it rules wise / mathematically, then by all means, go for it.

:D That's easy.

The dragon would have to be peanut like allergy towards eating cats though, and die from anaphlactic shock?

But when it comes to physically beating A non allergic dragon though...Well a cat could only do 1 hp on a natural 20. So to kill a 527hp ancient red dragon 10540 cats have to physically attack...And that's without the dragon stomping or frying any, just lying there and taking it. Maybe it was asleep and caught flat footed?. I'm thinking about 200,000 pissed off cats could do the trick if the dragon was aware of the impeding feline assult.

You can't alter the cats! or the dragon for that matter.

It's just a standard house cat, 1 to however many you need, 1 Ancient Red Dragon and any strategy you can write up and show to us that works. :)

oh and Tarangil, don't forget dragons have DR x/magic, so that Critical hit would be negated, unless you can do more damage than the DR per round somehow.

Unless you have something like the Hechtanoieres that can attack 100+ times per round.

And they somehow found a way to go to work on the dragon from the inside out.
